CCR might be the best singles band ever

Love CCR. Green River is easily my favorite record but Willy and Cosmo's come in as close seconds. Hell, all of the first 5 are pretty essential.

I remember when I first heard about Revisited and thought, "Elliot Eastman?" But listening to that first Cars record (My Best Friend's Girl for example) you realize a lot of his style was already pretty similar to Fogerty.

Yep, and there are tons of great album tracks that weren't singles.

My favorite American rock band of the '60s after the VU.

In ranking their albums, I'd have Green Rover and Cosmo's Factory tied at first, followed by Poor Boys, then Bayou Country, then Pendulum, then CCR, and Mardi Gras at the end.

NC. Although oversaturation of certain songs on classic rock stations makes me want to stop hearing those particular songs.

Their non-singles are infinitely better than their singles.

Best band ever, NC.

I don't think I've seen their set from Woodstock before. They should have been included in the concert film instead of Sha Na Na.

Fixed it for ya.

CCR are way beyond Not Crap. John Fogerty has an amazing range to his songwriting. And that voice!

Not crap. Tight rockin', good guitar band. They're to Northern Cal what the Beach Boys were to So Cal. Ripped of by many- including Led Zeppelin.

Ramble Tamble is my pick for overlooked, wish it had been performed live, best extended instrumental section, Creedence Clearwater Revival song. I'd like to go ahead and say it's one of the best album openers I've ever come across.

This thing exists, however:

This is really fantastic.

So many levels of awesome in that interview. The way he talks about songwriting, guitar playing, singing, his love for his wife and how she changed his life and gave him the home he'd always yearned for.

...or the story about the Grateful Dead taking forever to get their shit together at Woodstock so that CCR ended up playing in the wee hours of the a.m. - loved his impression of the dudes in the Dead, "maaaaan" - also liked to think of the San Francisco where he grew up (as opposed to the one it is now). You could sense some funny ball busting/cross-town rivalry had gone on between him and the Dead. Good stuff.

There are two kinds of Creedence fans: those who love Chronicle and genuinely appreciate the band and those who love the individual studio albums with a passion.

For a while, I'll admit, I was the former. At some point, I acquired the entire discography and was instantly into it. Songs like "Ramble Tamble" indeed prove that there's way more to this band than the hits.

Also, the quintessential band for any road trip up highway 5.
