They opened for Henry Rollins when I was in high school and they were just starting, I jumped on the stage, as was pretty common in those days...before I can jump off, the singer runs up and screams 'Get off my stage you fucking stoner!' and punches me right in the face. To this day I wonder why he called me a stoner, I had short hair and was wearing a nice shirt and wasn't stoned. Funny story, later that same night Mr. Rollins choked and pretty much body slammed the other kid I was there with for doing the same thing. Ah, the good ol days.

I saw Rollins play with Cypress Hill and the Beasties... Needless to say, a lot of gansta types thought he was a shit head. So some rap-gansta threw his shoe at Hank... Bad move!

He coiled up his mic, and maybe 10 minutes later, he flailed it at the same kid, wacking him in the most wicked medeival way! And then went off on him, saying he was shit, his parents were shit, and everything like that. He's probably right too...

Is it any wonder that I now attend art rock festivals? The worst thing a fan will do there is fart. Unicorns aren't very violent at all. Opinionated, yes.

opiate: crap
undertow fifty/fifty
aenima: not crap. i love how this album sounds. i really like how well written some of the songs are (i mean guys in tool arent pro-trained musicians, or maybe they are but were trained very poorly, with the excpetion of the drummer, but they can write a long song that does not bore me.. and i like their big dumb heavily distorted powerchords riffs). i like bill hicks. i like this album.
live album from this sali-something box: crap, crap, crap
lateralus: i agree with the guy who said the drums sound like shit, such a shame cuz it all sounded so good when i saw them live...btw their dummer uses the biggest drumkit i have ever seen.
videos: not crap.
overall: not crap

btw: i really can;t see why so many people puts them in this crappy not so-nu-by-now metal legaue, they sound nothing like lets say korn.

Ok...I'm sure that there are others on here that have heard the new album. So I'm curious what your reaction is to it. Personally...I'm going to listen to it for a little while longer before I form my opinion.

Anyone else want to give their thoughts on it though?

I gotta say that in the last 10-15 years, there has been so much CRAP, that there are a bunch of "least-of-all-evils" that get NOT CRAP status for being not as crappy. They had an interesting take on rock during the grunge era, and they had some pretty good videos. They can't help that their imitators have spawned one of the most destitute eras of rock. I vote NOT CRAP.

(Tool)-(The Singer)=(Good Band)

(Tool)+(The Singer)=(SuperCrapOla)

I can't stand the singer in this band. If there were a 'weakest link' on Tool, it is the singer. Whatever.

I swear someone told me that they recorded a whole album using mostly SM58s.

I don't know if that's true or not though. Anyone know the story on that?

I liked Undertow a lot at the time. Saw them in Newcastle at the time and enjoyed it. Haven't bothered with them since. But not crap for what I know.

I sometimes fear a whole generation of rock fans is waisted on bands like this.

Horrible CRAP. Cringeworthy, even.

I have heard 2 of their albums, Opiate and Lateralus.

The one good thing about hearing these albums is that when someone asks me if I like Tool, I can say "No, I think they're fucking shit."

Crap.

Tool is both one of my favorite bands and one of my most dislike bands. I can't explain it. They at times rock so hard. but they have become beyond pretensious.

The new disc has maybe 2 good songs and that's about it.

weak. 10,000 days is the only track that really does anything for me. the first track is pretty much standard tool.

there is a rumor that this album is just a bunck of stitched together out takes from over the years and that is, in fact, what it sounds like.

cool glasses though. I cracked up when I walked up to the cd in the store.

Was lucky enough to see them a few weeks ago, 6 rows back in a 2700-person venue with the best sound I've ever heard in a place that size. They blew my face off.

I love Tool. Yes, they have annoying filler and they take the piss outta their more gullible fans who need something to feel superior about while they breathe through their mouths. And yeah, the lyrics are silly, but I believe deliberately and entertainingly so.

I love Tool's faults, which make their talents that much more enjoyable. And Danny Carey is a fucking hell of a drummer, no matter what you haters say.

And can they at least get a tiny bit of respect for reaching the level of success they have with very little PR or image-whoring? They do few interviews, few stunt appearances, few public appearances of any kind outside their concerts.

I'm not saying there's no marketing in what they do. They've obviously cultivated an image. But they haven't done it through saturation and for that I'm grateful.

My favorite part is when the guy realizes he's completely helpless and raises his fist in a pathetic attempt to become part of the moment.

"YEAH! Rear naked chokes fucking ROCK!"

daz funneh!!!

i would like to think that tool is being somewhat ironic with their "message". It kinda of reminds me of the scene in life of brian when brian says "you need to think for yourself!" and the crowd responds in unison "Yes, we must think for ourselves". (paraphrased of course)

Absolute cock.

The whole 'complex music' thing is nonsense perpetuated by people who clearly don't know anything about the technical side of music; yes they sometimes play in odd time signatures, but it's consistently clear that this is done in an entirely contrived way rather than because the melodic/harmonic content dictates/demands it.

They sound like a band who count as they play.

Purest COCK.
