There was a time when I liked this band, but it seems like lately any time they come up in the mix I skip to the next song.

There was a time when everyone I knew was into these guys. I never did get the hype. Whatever one album of theirs I heard on loop everywhere I went was just completely uninteresting.

Crap.

Loved it about 10 years ago, when I was 16. Not so much now.

my friend daphny dated isaac brock very briefly, i think around the time Good News For People Who Love Bad News came out. at the time she was really young, and MM was her favorite band. she said he was pretty full of himself, and very insecure about a lot of things. that hardly comes as a surprise, especially given that the band was on the cusp of having a radio hit.

the last time she talked to him was when she was watching tv and an ad for the compilation Kidz Bop came on. there was a version of "Float On" on it. after seeing the ad, she immediately called him up and left a message saying "you're on Kidz Bop! bye forever!" on his answering machine.

I was WAY into this band some years ago. Not as much anymore but that's not to say that I don't enjoy to some of those earlier albums here and there.

Not crap because "Broke" is a great fucking song.

we watched this yesterday, which was pretty good:

If actually a little short, even at 45 mins.

got me thinking that I hadn't heard Lonesome Crowded West in at least ten years.
unfortunately, I only have the LP, and the record player is out of commission, so if any of you folks could send me an mp3 copy, I'd greatly appreciate it.

don't know where this band lost the plot, but this is one hell of an album.

^ PM sent.

I love the opening track, could be my favourite Modes Mouse song. Whole album is very good but I like it better when I listen to (imaginary) sides 1 or 2, the entire thing is a bit too long. From what I remember, or maybe I just get tired of the intensity.

The LP also has the bonus of "Baby Blue Sedan" which is a fantastic song:

Thanks for the hookup, Kuba!

Shit, I had no idea that LCW went for so much.
Do all the other records go for that much?

I have long drive on LP as well as the first four or so 7".

I'm pretty sure the first (and possibly only) time I ever saw boobs at a concert was when I saw MM in Bellingham in early 2001.

Lonesome Crowded West was in heavy rotation around the practice space when it came out, and I liked it just fine. The Moon and Antartica didn't grab me quite as much, and I never got in to anything after that.

This is a good song:

Yeah, "Cowboy Dan" is really fun to play. I learned a lot about using pairs of fingers independently figuring it out.

LCW was a monumental album for me and a couple friends at the time. Released in late '97 I see. Somehow I got old. Everything after The Moon and A is worthless to my ears. And I never revisit the good (early) albums anymore. This band is long dead to me.

Oh my god, we randomly heard their "new" song at a bar this weekend. I thought it was the Electric Six, as it sounded like joke-rock disco-grunge with horribly awkward white soul singing. I lost a dollar bet to my lady over it. Mind-bogglingly bad. You are not ready for how terrible it is.

I am absolutely guilty of liking that Gaybar song.

Despite having never liked any MM so far, and your warning, part of me can't wait to hear this new trainwreck just for the "WTF?!!!" value.

I am absolutely guilty of liking that whole stupid record. It makes me laugh uncontrollably. My point was that I was convinced that the song was some new joke rock anthem that Electric Six wrote. Instead...

Yeah, I tried to figure out the song when I posted earlier, but gave up really quickly. I have no idea how new this song is, but I haven't heard the last two records.

I saw Modest Mouse play live once, and it had to be the most disappointing and boring show ever. More disappointing than the Pixies reunion tour, which is saying a lot, as I worshiped the Pixies in high school.
Electric Six, however, put on a wonderful show.
