If we're all lucky, 2013 should shape up to be quite a year for all of us. 2012 was bad enough that everyone deserves a lucky 13.

Sorry. I know that's not on topic, just noting it. That aside: I'm looking forward to whatever she releases, and I still haven't got the Mirrorring collaboration or some of her earlier albums (and it says on Wikipedia that she released something this year called Violet Replacement that I hadn't even heard of). Liz Harris makes incredibly inspiring music.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

It's a rare thing, in these times, to see someone make art that is genuine and personal and irony-free, and to see it be embraced on a pretty large scale.

I consider myself quite fortunate to be Liz's friend, for reasons that have nothing to do with her art. She's one of my favorite people, period. If you're a fan of her art (or even if you aren't), you can rest assured that there is a rad individual behind it all.

Listening to Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill right now and am loving it. Fits very well with the weather out here at the moment.

I'm happy to just now be getting into her records with all of this new/old material surfacing.

Very nice.

The new track is great. If the entire album sounds like that, it'll be her best since Dragging a Deer...

For more reasons that one, 2013 should already be a better year for music than 2012.

Streaming this one at Type right now. Dunno... not quite as excited about this stuff as everyone else still. I think it's the vocals. More engaging than the others I've heard though.

NC but not my cup of tea, as they say...

My fave is her previous record, Cover the Windows and the Walls. Have you heard that one? Noisier, darker, vocals not as prominent.

A bit of it at Root Strata. Still not feeling it.

Kranky wrote:we are going to discontinue taking pre-orders for the two upcoming Grouper vinyl LP titles at least until release date. we have been overwhelmed with pre-orders, and we have to make sure we can fill all of the distribution and mail orders we already have before resuming sales. we expect to resume taking orders for these two vinyl LP titles on or around the release date of 02.07.13, sorry for any inconvenience.

just to be clear, these two releases will NOT be limited on vinyl and they will remain in print, so please remain calm and you will get as many copies as you like in short order.

Bonkers.

A lot of it feels like variations on Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping. Which is fine with me as thats a great song.

This reminds me that I need to write to the label, as my copy looks like it got a little too close to comfort with a box cutter while being packaged.

FYI she just put in a re-press order at the plant for her split 12" w/ Roy Montgomery, she said it'll be a couple months.

I mentioned Helen in the PRF shoegaze thread a while back.

Liz is obsessed with Flying Nun/Xpressway NZ underground stuff, and shoegaze. Helen seems to be her attempt to meld those 2 obsessions in a band context.

I haven't heard this single but I attended both of the 2 shows they've played thus far. Both pretty ragged. Helen is the first actual band Liz has ever been in, and it shows. I bet it's good in the studio, though.
