Yeah I can’t find the citation right now but the original tapes were a little sped up and reverb was added against the wishes of the band. I love the album either way but the properly transferred reissue is a little less inhuman and unplayable sounding.

EDIT: From 2005 ReR/Fred records re issue release: "In contrast to previous CD and LP versions, the Killing Time LP cuts are heard here as originally intended, at the correct speed and pitch and without added reverb."

yeeeesh. The Ruins lost their pedalboards and decided to play music for a shitty videogame. I used to be into weird shit like this 20 years ago but even then I woulda taken a pass on this.

CRAP, but I'd like to think Massacre led to Last Exit - where Laswell is noticeably more restrained in the presence of the, y'know, incredible musicians around him.

Frith with Maher should've worked but it's just dopey gotcha-"jazz." Marginally more tolerable than anything Bungle/Zorn/Weasel related, but still behind something I'd wanna listen to.

"Deaf Chili Peppers" made me lol.
Kerouacian as fuck.

I have listened to some solo Frith stuff but hadn’t listened to any Massacre music until now. I listened to Killing Time the other night because of this thread.

It’s interesting. I can hear where a lot of Skin Graft and like-minded bands cribbed from this album. The third song has that dynamic, linear walking-down-the street-having-a-good-day-then-a-piano-falls-on-your-head pivot/collapse part that has been echoed so often.

I can still fuck with Killing Time. I would not care to hear it at the proper speed, I think the recording is part of its charm.

I saw the version with Hayward circa 2000 and they were really great.

I'm not necessarily a big fan of the atonal noise bands that are popular here either, but even so, surely one atonal skronk is not just as good as another. Or are they?

So, it's maybe not so surprising that the one with overtones of wacky jazz funk on meth is not universally enjoyed.

I also get a lot of mileage out of Legs, but haven't really sat through much else
