Best Melvins Album

Postby Ernest on Thu May 17, 2007 8:43 pm

I nominate "Bullhead" or "A Senile Animal". I can't not play those albums.

What else?

Bullhead would be the classic or "best" i suppose. i generally listen to it back-to-back with Eggnog which is also great.

The Maggot as well. there is some fantabulous riffing on that one.

ugh... Bullhead seconded.

Hostile Ambient Takeover by far is my favorite. It gets them doing what they do best as well as throwin in some WTF moments as well.

That said Stoner Witch is a classic and the new one, A Senile Animal is superb as well.

For me it's always been Gluey Porch Treatments.

Bullhead is a VERY close second. Along with the Eggnog EP.

Much easier question would have been worst Melvins album...maybe not.

I always liked the older stuff best, Gluey Porch, Bullhead, I even like the solo records, but then the Maggot was great top to bottom. Senile Animal has a couple of songs I don't like, still in the top 5.

Bullhead, definately Bullhead

Funny that no one has said Lysol. That's probably my favourite. Bullhead, yeah, it's amazing. I have a real soft spot for Honky as well.

Gluey Porch Treatments for me, what an album.

Lysol and Maggot would be up next, probably. I love Gluey Porch Treatments.

I've never managed to see them live, that's a disgrace.

I agree. When I was 19 years old and in college I think listened to Lysol everyday for 10 months straight and every few days for years after that.

After those albums I would say Houdini. Houdini admittedly took awhile to grow on me, especially after the Bullhead, Eggnog, Lysol, Solo EP's run which, in my junior and senior years of high school, were like the sound of god to me.

Then I would nominate Stoner Witch - a much overlooked yet rocking record. One of the best with Mark D on bass.

Ozma and Lysol.
Eggnog is good for decrompressing after 45 minutes of your travelling mates' rap music.

I am right there with you, Mama.
I do have a gigantic soft spot for Lysol.
My wife had Lysol in constant rotation in her car for months. She looooves the Melvins now.
