As tommydski mentioned Mayfair is/was Mark Greenberg. Max is another keyboard player from Chicago. A nice guy.

Mayfair is indeed missed. I ran into him at the grocery the other day. What a fucking great guy.

They're touring with a fella named Ryan on drums. I don't know what band he's from. Very good, though, and enthusiastic.

I like them, but i have really hard recognizing their songs from each other. It sounds like they came up with really good hood and then totally overplayed it. Because of that I much prefer Sterolab or Broken Social Scene when I'm in mood for well made pop music. There is just much more going on there.
But, as a lot pf PRFers are saying, it is good music one can play in almost every circumstances and no one will tell to turn this unslistenable thing off.
Sea and Cake: NC :WF: 4
Sea and Cake bass lines : NC, no waffles.

Edit: Also, John McEntire drumming is over-rated. In Sea and Cake, in Tortoise, in general. He is a good drummer, he knows what he is doing, but I can't hear how so many people go on how he is one of the best drummers of "our age". He is not even close of being the best drummer in Tortoise.

I really like this band. Especially the first album.

'Bombay' is a wonderful song.

I'm 50/50 waffles on TSAC at this point.

I liked those first few albums, but I can't stand the new one; Prekop's vocals have turned into unbearable breath-y mush. Elastico Gomez makes a record. Yerg.

Inhale once in a while! You're fixin' to pass out!

not crap, but more exposure may very well turn that to crap. pretty fucking yacht rockish. parasol is a great great song, even though its called parasol and they are singing about parasols (lame!). easy listening for indie rockers. what a dichotomy!

the remix record with the white cover and a sample of herbie hancock talking about gear is way way not crap too.

Yes, Two Gentlemen is great. Prekop is getting a bit too samey in the delivery of late.

I used to really like 'em. Then one day I woke up and was terribly bored with everything about them. This has happened before with other bands and usually I come around to liking them again but The Sea And Cake... it has been years and it is still Yawnsville, Capital of Snorington. It makes me tired to think about those songs.

Not crap.

Rarely listen to them these days, but really liked the biz and the fawn back when I began flirting with music that wasn't all about overdriven guitars.

I can see why people may think they're boring, and most of my peers felt this way, but sometimes this band was good for taking the edge off. Hazy and summery stoner music.

I love them. They are my go-to when I want to listen to music but can't figure out what.

Very fond memories of walking around Italy with their albums on shuffle. I think Oui is my favorite.
