romney in new hampshire today wrote:"We cannot afford Barack Obama as the next president. He's a nice fella and a very well-spoken fella, but he's never done it," Romney said in Derry, challenging Obama's experience while adopting a version of the change message that worked for Obama and Huckabee in Iowa.

Did he really pronounce it 'fella' and not 'fellow'?? That's some sick pandering by Romney. Northern New England folks do say 'fellow' as 'fella', but I don't think it's natural for Romney to speak like that.

The Mitt Romney 'secret whisper' story is really funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NlIMQ31EjY
That's the video from last night's debate above.

The story:
The whisper that could be heard just before an answer from Mitt Romney at Thursday's Republican debate was the result of a microphone malfunction, an MSNBC spokesman tells RAW STORY, but its source remains a mystery.

Just before Romney answered a question about Ronald Reagan's 1983 Social Security overhaul, a voice can be heard whispering, either "He raised taxes" or "not raise taxes." The overheard musing was the result of an open microphone somewhere, but a spokesman said the whisperer has not been identified.

the Nation 1-28-08 wrote:Crawling from the wreckage of the Fred Thompson for President campaign is the former principal deputy assistant secretary for Near Eastern Affairs at the State Department.

This Bush administration specialist on the tenuous circumstances of what may be the world's most volatile region now joins Mitt Romney's campaign as a "senior foreign policy adviser."

This is not the sort of development that would excite many campaigns. Washington is sick with "principal deputy assistants" peddling their inflated resumes in search of new positions. They are the departmental hangers-on -- desperate to retain ranking accorded them only by virtue of political or paternal connections -- who attach to new campaigns in hopes of getting work in another administration.

But the Romney campaign thought enough of its latest recruit to circulate a press release announcing this campaign coup.

The new adviser to the campaign declared that she was "proud to support Governor Romney" because he is "dedicated to the success of our missions in Iraq and Afghanistan" and "is the only candidate who has outlined a comprehensive strategy for defeating the global Jihadist threat."

That sounds, um, interesting.

Unless you know that this "expert" on "the global Jihadist threat" is Elizabeth Cheney.

A Florida talk radio host had Mitt on, and the host ends up blowing his stack at Romney ( after Romney left the air ). Pretty good rant by the host, Mark Larsen. Good pro-Ron Paul content for a mainstream guy, too.

Take your shots now...today could be the last day in history that he is relevant...(which is a good and a bad thing).

Bad: Who wants to listen to this asshole?
Good: No one would vote for this asshole in a general election, whereas McCain would keep a general election "interesting" (read: terrifying).

Nothing new...but I'm quasi-interested to see what goes down in Florida tonight.

I still think he's relevant on February 5th because it's possible that there's a big backlash on the right against McCain.

But he's one scary motherfucker.

In any case, Romney could win a national election against Hillary. I don't think he would, but he could, and here's how -- the base on the right will be mobilized to vote against Hillary regardless of what Romney represents, so Romney repositions himself over the center to all those people who aren't the slightest bit familiar with him. Which is still a lot of people.

I agree with all of this.

There are a lot of important Republican Party members and conservative commentators who despise John McCain and will never get behind him. I expect the backlash to start in full force immediately.

Hillary Clinton is the one person who can unify the Republican Party, which is right now trying to figure out who it hates the least. And, seriously, an unnamed corpse (or Mitt Romney) could beat The Hillatron among independent voters in a general election.

I do like this thing stephen elliott wrote-

stephen elliott wrote:How is it possible that Mitt Romney's tax rate is 15%. I mean, I know how. It's because his income comes from investments, which are taxed at a much lower rate than people who work. If you're money is making money, it doesn't cost you much, and you can run for president. But if you work your tax rate is 35%. Most people don't have significant investment income. Middle class people always pay more taxes, percentage-wise, than rich people. The burden should probably be reversed. Also, there should be a special tax of 60% on every dollar you make after your first million annually. Something like that. Some people say that if taxes were higher innovators and entrepreneurs would be less inclined to create, but those people don't understand ambition.

Interesting if somewhat sympathetic piece on Mitt and the upcoming Super Tuesday:

Walter Kirn wrote:It's hard to keep pace with white de-evolution, though, and now, in the person of Brother Mitt, the insufficiently Christian, Harvard-educated, French-speaking architect of America's first socialistic public health care system, the sect's most conspicuous adherent is, to many of his fellow Republicans, an egghead radical, a liberal mole.
