Well put.

As I said elsewhere... It was nothing short of amazing. I have seen Swans three times before last night and I would rate this performance as second only to the 1992 “White Light / Love of Life” tour (one of my all-time favorite concerts). The only way I can describe it is a grown-up version of “A Long Slow Screw.”

Seeing them tonight.

Do they have much in the way of merch/records with them?

Yeah, I know they have at least two or three shirt designs and the new LP and CD.

I was wishing I would have not ordered the LP from Young God and just bought it at the show. They apparently got way too many mail orders to fill anytime soon.

There are concerts, and then there are concerts.

The concert tonight at the Crofoot was a religious experience.

It was practically indescribable.

They were better than Leonard Cohen. They may even have been better than Funkadelic. I don't care if you're broke; hustle your way in to see them. Drop everything and go. Everything.

The opener was chamber freak-folk sung by a 56-year-old transsexual with a strange, technically accomplished but wildly idiosyncratic voice. It was so militantly into it's own thing that I couldn't really like it very much.

Post-Show:

M. Gira: "How's life in Detroit?"
2E: "Uh...well...I'm trying to find some direction in life that doesn't require me to sell my soul..."
M. Gira: "Good luck, that's basically the trial of life."
2E: "Yeah. I'm not very happy here at all."
M. Gira: "You need to try Zen."
2E: "What?"
M. Gira: "Zen Buddhism."

I think it's possible I freaked him out.

I have never been moved to tears at a concert, but I almost cried real genuine tears when they played "Beautiful Child."

I am so, so, so glad I brought earplugs.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

At the moment, I have an extra ticket for tonight 5 Oct at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago.

PM if you want to buy it. Maybe they have more of them at the door, I dunno.

I read somewhere that they'll be touring 2 weeks at a time for the next few months or so. I'd imagine they'd make it out west.

According to Thor, this is basically the case, yes. TX dates in Feb, I think.

What a great show! The new songs, paricularly the re-worked version of "Eden Prison," sounded out of this world. An added bonus was getting to go backstage and hang-out for a bit. I thought I had given up my fanboyish-leanings long ago, but when pressed by Michael Gira to talk about my band all I could do was make stupid jokes and shy away.

So good.

I was absolutely astonished at how nice and courteous he was too... and that somehow made me even more awkward/starstruck/shy. I have never really been starstruck in my life, but I really was when I met him on Monday.

I've had the opportunity to talk to the man at several shows over the last 15+ years and I just can't do it. I always think back to him saying "go suck someone else's dick" on that "Public Castration..." album (if memory serves) - ha ha.
