SWANS Myspace blog wrote:COMING SOON, NEW SWANS ALBUM AND TOUR(S)
The song “Jim” recently added to the playlist is an acoustic demo (solo at home)
recording by michael gira. this, and many other new songs recorded in the same way comprise many of the new (rough versions) of songs under consideration,
to be fleshed out on the coming new swans album. a cd of these acoustic versions, as well as a live (2 shows) dvd of m.gira will be for sale very soon as a hand made (by gira) package called I Am Not Insane (CD/DVD). this package – in a limited edition of 1000 - will be sold in order to raise money for the swans recordings/offset the huge costs involved... check back here or at http://younggodrecords.com for ordering details and more information...coming soon...coming soon...

principal players on the swans album are (and there will be many special guests):

Michael Gira / gtr / voice / mendicant friar act (original swans)

Norman Westberg – Guitar (original swans)

Christophj Hahn – Guitar (mid period swans and most angels)

Phil Puleo – Drums, percussion, dulcimer etc etc (final swans tour and most angels)

Chris Pravdica – Bass and gadgets (flux information sciences / services/ gunga din)

Thor Harris, Drums, percussion, vibes, dulcimer, curios, etc etc... (angels, now also with shearwater)

Angels Of Light is temporarily on hold while gira pursues his “new” project...

The presence of Norman Westberg is making me squeal like a little girl in my head.

(Even though I'm willing to bet this will sound more like Angels of Light than anything else, or late-period Swans sans Jarboe, this will be interesting. Plus, crediting Gira for "mendicant friar act" is fucking inspired.)

An opportunity to see them play would be amazing. A dear friend of mine caught one of their show's in I'm assuming the 90's and said it forever altered how he plays bass. I really wish I wasn't born in 1987 some days......

Very excited that Norman Westberg is listed as a participant and that Jarboe is not.

Holy cow.

Just found out about this on another forum, totally gotta go if they come to Portland (and they probably will, Gira brings "AOL" to town a lot)

Ted Parsons may get involved, actually hoping Jarboe stays outta this.

Children of God tour dates

Postby falsedog on Sun May 02, 2010 8:03 am

Is anyone enough of a Swans fan to be able to supply me with the tour dates from the 1987 Children of God European tour? Its for an article I'm writing on the band / review of a gig I went to in Manchester on that tour. Thanks, if you can help. Fuck you, if you can't!

Superb band with a messy but fascinating trajectory. '83-'86 and '94-'98 were my favorite eras. I only like a few songs on each of the maudlin middle albums (except for the Burning World; that one totally sucks), and Jarboe can really grate.

Still, Cop is a landmark. Mosimann, Kane, Parsons, Rieflin and Mullins were all amazing drummers. Norman had a fine, grainy guitar tone. And Gira is one of those artists who still matters and keeps you guessing, even though he's well into his 50s.

Check my post in Swans vs. Sonic Yoof Thunderdome for more elaboration on the above.

Career-wise, see also: No Trend, Black Flag. It's all about trusting the artist and rolling w/their musical development, faulty as it sometimes may be. Serious flaws and bumps in the qualitative road do not destroy impact of the whole. A band that really pushed boundaries and never pandered to its audience's expectations.

According to two people who play on the new Swans album, the studio sessions were a joy. Have heard it will be loud, so long as nobody fucks it up in the mixing stage. Fingers crossed.

And Never Crap, even though they were pretty close for a while in the late '80s.

I hadn't listened in a long time and recently started re-listening to the early stuff and Soundtracks for the Blind, which is probably one of my favorite albums ever. I can't stand anything with Jarboe on it though. Early albums like Filth and Holy Money are great for a romantic candlelit evening in with your lady.

Would anyone care to share Public Castration Is A Good Idea on the sendspace thread? In return I can share some bootleg Justin Bieber demos and remixes.

I've been meaning to check out swans for awhile and I haven't actually heard any full albums...what's the best starting point? I know some stuff and I got all excited when I heard they were touring, but I want to hear a little more before I drop $30 on a ticket for a show 4 months away...
