Tough call but at least James isn't a nepotist.

What you are overlooking here is that Jim Carey is horrible.

JC was homeless and used to break into houses and also would make faces in the mirror for hours on end. And now he's got a ton a of money. And he's Canadian. So I don't think he horrible at all even though his movies can be.

Ben Stiller is related to one of the funniest people on earth...Jerry Stiller.

But none of those things would contribute to a person being horrible or not horrible, except for breaking into houses which is horrible, and making faces in the mirror for hours on end which is horrible and also explains a lot.

Anyway, I wasn't talking about him personally, although he does seem like a dick. I was talking about his horrible work. It's true that Ben Stiller is related to somebody who is funny, at least.

I can't imagine Ben Stiller pulling off "Eternal Sunshine...", or being even clsoe to it. which may be on me as I haven't seen a whole of films with him, but nevertheless, Carrey easily. Also, Jim can be actually funny, it's just his super expressive shtick get annoying really fast. Can Stiller be funny? I'm not sure.

I'm going to be the contrarian old man here, and say that I find both of them funny in small doses. I actively liked The Ben Stiller Show. I think either of these guys are much funnier than any of the hipster comics people love. Also neither talk endlessly about their vaginas. I cant stand either of them in "serious" mode. Also, Jim Carrey is also totally unhinged now -for real this time. Check out his episode of Seinfelds "Comedians in Cars". He's all earthy enemas, and makes horrible art on giant canvases.

I give James the edge. He's kind of genuinely maniacal and that's amusing in its own right. There's a video of him making those bad paintings but he's truly knee deep in it .

Dudes, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a terrible movie.

It's not like Ben Stiller is an amazing actor, but Carrey is not only not funny but tedious as well.

Not a huge fan of either of them or anything but I don't share any of the hate whatsoever. His comedy roles in movies can be kinda weak, but I liked the Ben Stiller show a lot, and a handful of his director/writer/actor projects are pretty good (Tropic of Thunder, The Cable Guy, the first Zoolander was okay, Meet the Parents, he was fine in Greenberg etc). I like Jim Carrey even more - was great in Man On the Moon(don't wanna see that Netflix documentary and have it ruined for me), Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber are still enjoyable, Liar LIar is good, The Truman SHow is good. I even thought he was great in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and despite a few things, that film had some unique, thoughtful insights into the insular and classified world of relationships. As a kid I loved watching Jim Carrey on talk shows, especially on Conan, they could be so great together! I don't actively seek out either of their work, but I don't avoid it necessarily either. Well maybe some of the more overtly formulaic stuff.
