No TV show has caught my imagination like this since the first two seasons of the Sopranos, only the suspense and plot pacing is even tighter. Every actor is terrific, and the addition of Bob Odenkirk was even better than advertised. Why isn't this the show everyone talks about?

I think it's probably too much of a downer for the average family to sit through.

That said, it is a very amazing show.

This country can't get enough Law & Order and CSI spinoffs yet Breaking Bad might be too dark? I cannot accept this. I just don't think enough critics hype this show the same way they hype Mad Men.

Amazon.com is streaming the pilot and few other episodes. The pilot is better than most movies made right now, particularly in the suspense genre. If you watch the pilot, you will probably immediately put your shoes on to run out and get the DVDs of the first two seasons as the credits roll.

I'm on the last episode of Season One. This is brilliant television.

A trusted friend's opinion said he loved Season one, but Season 2 sucks.

He is also under-sexed.

Anyone agree that season 2 is not good (that's not under-sexed?)

Interesting start to the season. Considering the first 2-3 episodes of season 2 nearly gave me a heart attack and I couldn't wait for the slow-paced set-up episode, they start Season 3 with something of a companion to the Season 2 finale, essentially a set-up episode. The assembly scene and the scene with Skylar and Walter were excellent.

I caught a couple episodes of Season 1 late night at a friends house last week. I was planning on watching it eventually, but I was blown away by how good it was. I am thinking it could have the potential to hold a candle to my all-time favorite television show of all time, The Wire. I will be watching Breaking Bad soon on Netflix so I guess I'll find out. The drug manufacture and distribution seems much more realistic than Weeds, which always bothered me about that series.

I truly hoped your undersexed friend is full of shit on this one. Unlike bands it never seems like most great TV series hit their stride until the second series, The Simpsons, The Sopranos, The Wire, etc.

It's pretty good. The Wire has spoilt all other TV of this type though. I just watch other things and think "this isn't as good as The Wire". With Breaking Bad it's definetley an enjoyable watch but it lacks both depth and authenticity.

I've watched all of them so far and I think it may go the way of Prison Break in the sense that the story vehicle is limited. This show could have been done in one season, with the end of the particular story arc that is central to the show (at the end of season two) (I'm desperatley not trying to give away any spoilers here). Towards the end of season two I was growing a bit bored of the whole thing - what other ways could Walt and Jesse fuck up, hey I know what about this...

As I said though it's still pretty good. Plus, Jesse's junky girlfriend is super super hot.

Breaking Bad is definitely better than The Wire. The Wire used heavier subject matter, but Breaking Bad's writing and acting is worlds ahead of The Wire. Of course, it gets pinned by too much regular cop show grandstanding and machismo on the law enforcement side which holds the show back. Also, while I'm finishing up the first season of The Wire right now, there really aren't any charismatic characters and they use very little humor effectively. The Wire is good, but it's not even close.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Let's talk about the Teddy Bear Eye

We saw this in Season 2 at the beginning of a few episodes eye hanging off the bear. In Season 3, the eye is introduced in the pool skimmer. Walt takes a long look at it and puts it in his pocket as Hank arrives to pack his stuff. When he gets to his apartment, Walt is seen again giving it a long deliberate stare and then drops it under the bed as he is interrupted by Skylar knocking at the door. The next time it is seen we see Walt hitting a bottom and waking up to the eye staring at him almost judgmentally. He's interrupted again by Skylar calling on the phone. Then lastly Walt has packed it with him as he's sneaking back into his house. One of the Juarez goons takes another long, deliberate look at it before putting it away while waiting for Walter to finish his shower. Then they get the interrupted by a text message and leave.

At first I thought this was something of a symbol for Walter's soul as Walter was the one seen gazing at it each time, the other time being when the goons stared at it while waiting to kill Walter. But then I realized that the eye is consistently a foreshadowing of an interruption by an outside character delivering news or altering the course of what the character has planned. First it comes before Hank tells Walter he's moving out. Second just before Walter is handed the divorce papers. Third before Walter is threatened with a restraining order. And finally when the 'Pollos' text tells the goons that there's more to this Walter White than they are aware. So, perhaps this eye is a symbol for God's hand in the story changing the future chain of events.

I don't know, what do you think?

So many people I know are going apeshit over this series. Even my father, who usually doesn't show such enthusiasm for television shows.

Maybe I should check it out.

Just watch the pilot. It's better than 99% of suspenseful movies made right now. I have never seen a better pilot and it will show you exactly what everyone's talking about.
