I hate to sound so negative, because I actually liked it for awhile, but this show just can't overcome its post-soap opera constraints in my eyes and I can't stand Jesse as a character for another episode.

More importantly, the wife took me out of the show completely.

"You've been so DISTANT and WEIRD since you got DIAGNOSED WITH FUCKING LUNG CANCER."

Then she runs off and nails her boss.

Add in the mute slow-mo assassins and yeah... from "awesome!" to "eye roll."

However, it IS absolutely gorgeous, and when it's on it's on...

Might give it another shot; maybe I was in a mood.

I dig this show and I really don't mind the cartoony-ness of it all. I started watching it with no expectations as to it being "the greatest TV in history" or any of that sort of buzz these hyped up shows get.

However, I find that I cannot fucking stand any female character on this show. Skylar was slightly more tolerable early on but still an annoying shrew. However, her decision to "keep appearances" when it keeps her family in danger, fuck her boss, etc. makes me loathe her.

Love Arthur Jr. By far my favorite character on that show.

With a show like The Wire, I find when it does slip into those cartoon moments ("fuckity fuck fuck") I can't be bothered with it. That might have to do with hearing so many people go on and on about its "authenticity" or being "the greatest TV in history" before I tried to watch it. I have no problem living the rest of my life without seeing past the first few episodes of the first season or two.

Last night's episode was pretty boring for the most part, but I guess served its purpose in an expository kind of way

I think I read something saying that wasn't even planned, he was just supposed to throw it... and it just ended up on the roof and they were like: "Amazing! That's the take."

Which makes it all the better.

Also: this show rules, it's the degradation of the human soul, and I am all about it.

I think I saw somewhere that they ended up nailing it to the roof.

Who were the guys shooting up the chicken truck? Am I supposed to remember something from last season for that to make sense?

I'm not too sure either who those guys were.

I'm guessing some other mexican drug gang. Maybe somehow related to Gus's killing of that other dude?

What was [shit. can't remember the guy's name now] hiding in? Looks like they shot the whole thing up and he didn't get hit at all? (ok....his ear. but that's all?)

They did the hit on the other cartel guy from Season 3 on the 'Previously on' part.

Gus is now king of the cartel right now. There is bound to be riff raff trying to throw rocks at the castle and/or jack trucks to intercept the product. Having Mike in the truck on that run led me to believe that this wasn't the first time a jacking went down and therefore they need to make a counter statement to competitors lighting up chicken trucks. And also I'd have to assume he had protection in his little space where he hid.

i'm assuming it's retaliation from someone tied to the cartel kill. seems like the heat from that hasn't died down yet.

http://www.amctv.com/shows/breaking-bad ... t-season-4 helps clear some stuff up, Bolsa's death removed "part" of the cartel so i wouldn't call him king

Has it really been a month since this thread was bumped?

Because, for those that are caught up--

DAMN-NNNNNNNNNNN.

Seriously, the last scene of Sunday's episode is so off the wall insane; not since Twin Peaks have I seen anything so absolutely terrifying on TV.

Just started watching this. God I'm an idiot for skimming this thread - duh, spoilers... so the wife sleeps with her boss, huh? Ah well. It's a great show - I saw one episode that was in the middle of the season a year or so ago and couldn't get into it. Then I started from the beginning on streaming Netflix and I'm hooked as hell. So dark and hard to watch in moments, then it's hilarious. Good shit.

After a flawless first season and a good second season, I'm starting to think that this show is going off the rails and grasping at straws. By mutating into something so obviously over the top, it's destroying a bit of what made it appealing in the first place. I understand the need to develop it and move forward, but the believable nervous tension of cooking meth in a trailer is giving way to Hollywood-style "action" and hysteria, albeit interesting and surreal variations thereof. I'm still watching, but I'm growing ever more skeptical. That plane crash and the appearance of the druglord brothers so long ago seemed to introduce a slide into the absurd. Which I can respect, I just don't like it as much as the style of the first few seasons. Such "crazy" moments and characters have become the rule, rather than the exception. It's desensitizing.

There's no real point in bumping this thread because most people here want this show to be The Wire and commonly comment on how 'over the top' it is. Because I know when I watch a show about a terminally ill chemistry teacher partnering up with a failed student to concoct the world's greatest meth, I know I want note for note realism too.

And yes, that was the best episode they've ever done and this season is in the question with Season 3. I didn't think it was possible.
