I do have a problem if you create a persistant, aggressive, confrontational problem with either me or those I care about because you feel the need to impose your personal ethos upon either myself or them.

So, crap.

What are you saying here?

That people who try to pick-up others want to dominate them? I thought they just wanted to have sex with them.

Anyway, back to conquistador-sex: where does Pablo Picasso (w/ El Dorado) fit in?

Pretty sure the first rule of PUA is not telling them you're a PUA.

Yeesh, natural selection at work right there.

He was never called an asshole. I'm not sure that Subprime picked up on your Modern Lovers reference there, Munt.

Not really an ethos or anything at all and rather pointless. Braying idiots use it when talking about themselves, probably. Maybe that's its only use -- to be mentioned as dead weight in a conversation.

I've never touched alcohol, cigarettes or any drugs in my life, and I'm a vegetarian, but I don't identify as being straight edge because all of those things are just what I do. I just never had any interest in taking up drinking when I was a teenager and it just kind of carried through (I'm 24 now). I've been consistently on various antidepressants for the last 5 years, so I guess if you we're being strict I probably wouldn't be considered straight edge, but I would love to be able to not have to take any medication (I like the idea of not being reliant on foreign substances). I don't judge other people for drinking/eating meat etc, this is just the way I do things and it doesn't bother me what other people do.

Not crap, I guess.

In the 80's it just seemed like something different to brag about. So waffles for making a point of it. Struck me as pointlessly militant and extreme.

I don't get it.

I think straight edge as an ethos is pretty funny. The seriousness and inappropriate projection of some deeper "struggle" to achieve a lifestyle that mormon children already participate in without d beats and camo pants...it all keeps a smile on my face.

Gotta admit, I also get a kick out of their referring to alcohol and weed as "poison" or the "poison free" tattoos. Shit's funny.

Agreement with what krs said, I think it has its place amongst children, but if you're an adult calling yourself straight edge, that's a little silly.

I don't care that youre sober anymore than you care about how drunk I am.

Sobriety without plugs, army hats and preaching about how great it feels to be "poison free" over a glass of chocolate milk on stage = not crap.

Straight edge = crap.

An guy I knew from way back in the day, now in his late 30s, married with a toddler, just proclaimed on Facebook that he has been proud to be "edge" for 18 years running.

In his household, I anticipate speedballs will enter the picture 15 years from now.
