Why should anyone have to feel dirty or guilty about liking this album? I would think that as serious music lovers we've all had childhoods where certain sounds, songs, or music arrangements performed as a soundtrack. Not to sound all Pitchforky-and-shit, but I think more than a few of these songs resonate with people--the songs strike a common chord. There's nothing incredibly original about the production or songwriting, they sound like songs we've all heard before. I think it's the intent behind the songs. And like many other people here have said, they put on a great fucking show.

In a world full of bland, listless, and empty pop songs one would think that this album would garner a bit more respect in respectable underground music communities.

Funeral is not crap.

They just leaked out the recorded version of Intervention from the upcoming album. Anyone else hear it? The massive church organ sounds great, but the choir in it doesn't do too much for me.

Let me know if I should put this in the gmail acoount.

I dislike the Arcade Fire...but I can't really bring myself to label it as crap. I have the Funeral record...the voice is stupid basically. The record isn't really that fun even. I dunno. Not Crap. I'm going soft.

The song "Cold Wind" on Six Feet Under made me think that maybe the Arcade Fire is pretty good.

On one of the few occasions when I have seen MTV2 in recent times, a video by this group was shown. I don't remember the song, I'm afraid. By the end - which was a long time in coming - any sense of intrigue about this being the band behind all the hype was replaced by a consensus in the room that it sounded like The Waterboys.

Crap, because I've never been sure if I like 'The Whole of the Moon', or not.

Bearing this in mind, it becomes all the more impressive that they pulled of a decent record. Because they did.

NOT CRAP.

Having just listened to it, you're right about that last track sounding In the Air Tonight.

It's good that they did not try to remake Funeral, but Neon Bible is a huge disappointment. They've gone and made the classic "difficult" second record. The lead track, "Black Mirror," sounds like a discarded Sisters of Mercy B-side. And it goes from there...a lot of portentous songs without the levity and exuberance that made Funeral so great. And the songs simply aren't as good. When your best song is a re-recorded version of an old song ("No Cars Go"), you've made a bad record. Boo hoo.

Really liked Funeral, Really not a fan (so far) of Neon Bible.

I'm reserving judgement on the C/NC

I agree with Steve V.

Both The Arcade Fire and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are overrated.

I wanted to hate these bands but neither of them are quite as bad as I wanted them to be.

The first album I'd call not crap, though they were in no way able to match the hype.

The second album... well, all I know is their "single" as it were is a sack of shit.
Is you crazy baby, I gots to grind

Heard "Keep The Car Running" (and maybe The Arcade Fire) for the first time this morning on the CBC -- the song is pretty much the same as "On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, which can't be a good sign.
