Burton's Foods response to the question 'does having curry sauce on a chip shop fish make you a dirty fecker?' Please note that these are Fish 'n' Chips with fish shapes and curry sauce, not Curry 'n' Chips as per Burton's Chicken 'n' Chips from small times.

A pie has been sent into space, from Wigan.

It is believed this is the first pie to be launched into the stratosphere.

Sutton United reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw insists he ate a pasty during his team's televised FA cup tie because he "was hungry".

That's like Rick Wakeman eating a curry on stage during Tales from Topographic Oceans.
Will you eat that butty please?!

It is thought the pie will freeze on its ascent and will be cooked as it reaches "massive speeds" on re-entry.

Let it be put to record that I am fully in favor of heat-via-reentry as a cooking method.

They'll have to accelerate a meat pie to at least sub-orbital speeds to do that. I'm afraid free-fall from the Karman Line won't quite cut it (pun intended).

Your physics homework for tonight is to calculate exactly how high a pie will have to be dropped from in order for it to be cooked and edible (a burnt or uncooked pie will result in a FAIL) on impact.

I would imagine you would need some kind of heat-shield pie dish to achieve this.

I'm guessing the terminal velocity of a pie is pretty low so I doubt height has much to do with it. If you drop it, it will fall cold forever. You're going to have to launch that thing, have it slingshot around a couple of planets in a vacuum first. Maybe if you get them to roll down a window of the ISS and chuck it out.

a How much heat is needed to perfectly cook the pie.

b How fast the pie needs to be going when it hits the atmosphere to provide a.

c How far away from the Earth the pie needs to be to reach b when it arrives at the atmosphere.

Bonus question: How fucking long am I going to have to wait for my pie from the time it is "dropped"?
