The funniest thing about rap music is that no matter how cool or hot a rapper is right now, in 5 years everyone will be laughing at themselves for ever taking them seriously.
The music is absolutely and blatantly whoreish, devoid of any artist merit whatsoever. Dated and tainted the second it is created because it exists as immediate product, to boxed up and sold and absolutely nothing else. Rappers wildly and continually change their style and sound to follow bullshit trends and what's hot and selling and will stoop to levels no respectable actual musician ever would, tripping over themselves to sell out as fast and hard as possible.

'Dress up in a clown suit, do backflips while I rap on a Katy Perry song about eating marshmallows? NO PROBLEM!'

How some of you have the desire, time and energy to somehow sift through this pathetic shit pile and pick out the peanuts is way beyond me.

Fuck this idiotic music, fuck the people who make it and who listen to it. It has nothing even remotely to do with anything worth paying attention to. It is the opposite of respectable, a fucking joke that was old a long time ago. You people think it's worthwhile because you have jelly in your fucking heads, just wiggling around.

I am supposed to appreciate rap music because that's what I'm supposed to appreciate, for some reason.

Man, fuck that shit. This shit is STUPID.

I think you know deep down inside that you've wasted a lot of time and energy exploring a truly vapid and artistically void subculture, Antero.

So, where them beats at, supe?

I can already tell you'll say some weak ass shit like "well obviously i have better things to do than make rap beats blah blah blah". I'm not saying that isn't true or anything, you have a wife and a job after all. But if you're going to claim that it's "so easy to make" and that you can "totally make anything on the level of what is commonly considered great", you should really put up or shut up.

Preferably shut up.

Good call! Oh, and be sure to check out my band, Victory! And Associates!. This is us playing Lollapalooza last week.  Also, don't forget about the new record, These Things are Facts!. Pre-pre-order your copy today!

this whole controversy is a viral marketing scheme. rap beef = attention from hiphop cognescenti = rapeman sample licensed for next kanye record = money in the bank.

You're close.

What's really going on here is that Steve's a "Has-Been" who's riding on the success of these youngsters, who "Never-Were," cuz, ya know, all publicity is good publicity.

When I was in high school, and it was awesome.
I am not shitting on high school kids who listen to rap music, that makes sense, that's about the maturity level of even the most 'intelligent' rap music.
An adult who listens to 'hip hop' reminds me of one of those adult baby perverts, the dudes who sit in a crib and wear a diaper and have some chick feed them a bottle. Lost in some perpetual loop where they just refuse to grow the fuck up. So fucking creepy and sad.

Maturity? Respectability?

That shit means I have to stop cranking the first Ramones record.

Woop-woop!
That's the sound of da police!
Woop-woop!
That's the sound of the beast!

Stand clear! Don man a-talk
You can't stand where I stand, you can't walk where I walk
Watch out! We run New York
Police man come, we bust him out the park
I know this for a fact, you don't like how I act
You claim I'm sellin' crack
But you be doin' that
I'd rather say "see ya"
Cause I would never be ya
Be a officer? You WICKED overseer!
Ya hotshot, wanna get props and be a saviour
First show a little respect, change your behavior
Change your attitude, change your plan
There could never really be justice on stolen land
Are you really for peace and equality?
Or when my car is hooked up, you know you wanna follow me
Your laws are minimal
Cause you won't even think about lookin' at the real criminal
This has got to cease
Cause we be getting HYPED to the sound of da police!

Now here's a likkle truth
Open up your eye
While you're checking out the boom-bap, check the exercise
Take the word "overseer," like a sample
Repeat it very quickly in a crew for example
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer
Overseer
Officer, Officer, Officer, Officer!
Yeah, officer from overseer
You need a little clarity?
Check the similarity!
The overseer rode around the plantation
The officer is off patroling all the nation
The overseer could stop you what you're doing
The officer will pull you over just when he's pursuing
The overseer had the right to get ill
And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill
The officer has the right to arrest
And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest!

(Woop!) They both ride horses
After 400 years, I've _got_ no choices!
The police them have a little gun
So when I'm on the streets, I walk around with a bigger one
(Woop-woop!) I hear it all day
Just so they can run the light and be upon their way

Check out the message in a rough stylee
The real criminals are the C-O-P
You check for undercover and the one PD
But just a mere Black man, them want check me
Them check out me car for it shine like the sun
But them jealous or them vexed cause them can't afford one
Black people still slaves up til today
But the Black police officer nah see it that way
Him want a salary
Him want it
So he put on a badge and kill people for it
My grandfather had to deal with the cops
My great-grandfather dealt with the cops
My GREAT grandfather had to deal with the cops
And then my great, great, great, great... when it's gonna stop?!

Sound Of Tha Police
KRS-One

If you think this is stupid music for stupid people, you should just stop listening to music altogether.

I'm not allowed to like Pantera either? Fuck, PRF, your standards are crazy.

Rap music can, has, and probably will stay exciting and fresh. Not all of it, of course. But the hip hop scene nowadays is pumping out insanely creative music, it's only musical competitor for "shit you need to hear" seems to be fucked up hardcore sludge (Pygmy Shrews, Leather, etc). So yeah, I make no apologies. Odd Future still has me amped for new releases (Mike G and Mellowhype in particular).

Please note I don't find Waka Flocka anything other than annoying.
Kerouacian as fuck.
