I had no idea this was a celebrity band trying to be all normcore. I thought it was just some LA indie girls jamming. I frown upon this, and retract my previous lukewarm positive comment.

I like this Disco//Very song. It's completely disposable, but pleasant. If you squint your ears really hard it kind of sounds like Odyshape 2014, I guess. I don't really get the video. The pretty girls dancing thing is nice enough, but the whole chilling with our skater bros bit makes me feel like I'm listening to Avril.

Also, only the lady with the pink hair seems like she has any interest in dancing in the middle of the road with her friends.

One of the members is literally a celebrity, her sister, also in the band, is married to Chris Cunningham. Their new record was produced by Flood and Nigel Godrich, and more unforgivably they have RHCP connections. Considering this advantage, the music is unremarkable and their appearance portrays them as if they were some kids off the street, not groomed NME darlings.

Celebrity or actress? The two are not mutually inclusive. Maybe if you are up on LA gossip this stuff is meaningful, but if not, I don't see "celebrity" here. Also, Sossamon left the band.

Not really sure where to begin here. So, are you saying that they are expected to look and sound a certain way because of their "connections" (very, very loose ones at that) ?

This doesn't strike me as a particularly obscure art film. I guess she was also on a network show. Either way, I don't care, I just thought their presentation was disingenuous. I thought it was kind of groovy if they were just some punk kids with bad dye jobs, but instead it's all a put-on. I still think they're better than the Savages.

You can think they suck all you want, really, it's cool. I'm totally cool with hating on shit for a good reason. But just because someone was in a film doesn't make them a celebrity. Josh Hartnett is hardly a fucking celebrity, but I know who he is. Being in one film and I guess a network show that had some amount of popularity still doesn't make one a celebrity; it makes one an actor, maybe. How is it all a put-on? What exactly are they putting on? They are in a band that plays music. One of them acts, the other dated Frusciante for a while. One is married to a music video director. How does any of this = "put-on?" This is not the same thing as Johnny Depp starting a band with a Butthole Surfer, not even close.

I saw the video. They have a simple fun song and they looked homeless. I thought cool, some kids finally doing something ok. I do a google search and they are a manufactured pop act of old ladies. Zorg = let down. Thats about it.

I think both albums and the EP are pretty good and listenable. I really couldn't careless if they have "celebrity connections", christ Jeff Bridges is pure Hollywood nepotism but he's still a fine actor. As for the video, there are a slew of bands at the more "major label" end of alternative music that have videos that make them look like asses, Deftones spring to mind here, whose music I think is great, but the cutiesy, supermodel videos are embarrassing... that said the last one is just a guy skateboarding...

I haven't really spent any time with Warpaint but years ago I saw the drummer play in another band once and my jaw was on the floor. She was incredible.

Apparently I uploaded it to Youtube and it's still there!

Warpaint formed in Los Angeles on Valentine's Day 2004. The original lineup consisted of childhood friends Theresa Wayman and Emily Kokal alongside sisters Shannyn Sossamon and Jenny Lee Lindberg. The band played in the Los Angeles area for three years, writing songs ("Stars", "Beetles", and "Elephants") which would eventually comprise their debut EP.

Just like the Jonas Brothers!

a c-list character actress hardly counts as a "celebrity". She's got numerous credits, but hardly a household name--I bet you walk outside and say "Shannyn Sossamon" to 20 random people and you get 19 blank stares. Hell, I didn't know who she was until I just looked it up.

As for the Chili Peppers "connections", Frusciante mastered a record for them, and a future member played on it. If we're going to disavow them on that basis, we should disavow Fugazi for Joe Lally playing with those two guys.

They were going to form on the 10th, but their management told them to wait for the holiday!

If we wrote off every band for the company they keep, there'd be very little left to listen to...

Band is boring as hell, not sure what y'all are hearing?

Given their histories and connections, wouldn't suprise me if they are asshole yoga-mom types who don't respect service workers.

Listen to Effi Briest instead.
