It sent me to Google to connect the dots. Apparently there were some concerned parents last summer who thought there were too many crashes in Thomas the Tank Engine, causing fear amongst little minds. Jeeze, if that's the worst thing they're seeing on TV...

Not me though, I loved Diesel. He was a man's man. A man's train.

Above, Diesel responds wordlessly to someone asking why doesn't have a Twitter account.

So what is the plotline of your typical Thomas the Tank Engine? There's the angry trains and the smiling ones and they're enemies?

I've only seen the show a few times and can never really figure out why they're just sitting on the tracks talking to one another all the time. Guess I should ask my nephew to turn the sound up...

Dude, you just blew my mind.

EDIT: I'm going to stop bumping the Beck thread now, sorry. But I'm glad I did, it has proven to be quite educational.

Would not purchase The Sorrow and the Pithy: The Smiths Greatest Hits.

Apologies for further thread derailment. Let's get back on track with Tommy Tank.

Beck: The Training Wheels of Rock. I was really into him when I was 12. Thanks Beck, for opening up a lot of music to my ears that makes yours seem really, really lame.

From the first one (either Golden Feelings or Stereopathetic Soulmanure) through Mutations, solidly Not Crap. He started to slip on Midnite Vultures but there are still some good jams on that album. I didn't like Sea Changes much, and I stopped keeping keeping track of anything after that. I have heard a few songs he put out after Sea Changes and they were okay. They didn't suck, mildly catchy tunes that were there if the radio was on that didn't make me want to change the station.

That new one is unlistenable, it has to rank up there with the worst records I've ever encountered, Jesus. Just complete horseshit.

Guero is a fantastic album, I don't know why it gets glossed over, it's the best one he ever did, really great songs on there.

Beck: I never fell for it. I am thankfully old enough to have already been into grunge and punk before MTV started selling everything with that label. By the time Beck's "genius" was being foisted upon us, I had developed a thick skin and finely-tuned bullshit detector. Nice try, MTV, but I did not and never will buy it. CRAP, WF:2 for coming out of the disco closet with songs like Sexx Laws.

This new album is pretty inoffensive. I'm sure it goes nice with cinnamon lattes.

But really, how much money do you think it cost to make this? Probably more than the house I grew up in is worth. And for what? Something you can sit pleasantly to? Something that B&N can pump lightly through the speakers towards the end of the night to get people sleepy so they free up seats? If Beck is trying to move his listeners, uh that's fucking hysterical. This is hemp-shoe music. This would sound fine on the weather channel.

Maybe Beck is like the 'Springtime for Hitler' of 'alternative' music. You know, these goons in the record industry found some schmuck who wrote songs about smoking dope and watching MTV, had a good laugh over the prospect of getting this goon on the radio, and eventually were horrified to hear his 'slacker' garbage everywhere. And now he's making 'serious' albums. Christ.
