Band: The Bad Plus

I only have their first, but I think it's really solid. The playing is top-notch, and they "take it outside" enough to satisfy the free-jazzer in me, but the tunes are sophisticated enough to satisfy the hard bopper in me. Oh yeah, and they do some interesting covers that don't sound as horrible as they might in theory.

And yes, I have a free-jazzer and a hard-bopper in me.

As an aside, or a poll within a poll, is $16 too much to pay to see this band? To clarify: if you liked a band pretty well, only had one album by them and you had an opportunity to see them, would that price drive you away? How about if you had to wake up at 6 AM the next morning and by 10:30 the opener had still not started?

I was lucky enough to play alongside them on a tv show in the UK. We had to follow them which was not the most relished experience of my life as they were totally mindblowing.
