ADDICTED TO COFFEE

Postby Boombats on Thu Apr 19, 2012 9:29 pm

I can be a real shitbag when I haven't had it. Sometimes I don't know why I feel assy, then when I finally get a cup of joe to my lips and I feel that feeling, that I-could-almost-cry-it-feels-so-good feeling, I realize I have a problem.

I'm a recovering alcoholic (as well as an ex-smoker), and I know that sometimes when I reach for another cup I'm subconsciously reaching for an alcohol substitute. I am wary of habitual behaviors and never want to be a slave to anything. Every week now I find myself saying "I gotta quit coffee" as I'm pissing every five minutes and I don't get enough sleep. What the fuck am I gonna do without coffee though? Shit!

I quit for a while, and Yerba mate was a good intermediate step. Caffeine is hard to beat, but get though the headache for a couple days and it's over, unlike nicotine. Good luck!

Switching to black tea worked for me, was off coffee for eight years or so. Of course, now I'm back on coffee, but only two cups a day and never after 3pm.

I'm trying to figure that out, too. Not crap, but time to quit? Hell no. This is the addiction to have.

It's brown water. Ride that addiction into the sunset.

I can go a day or two without, but then it's right back to around 16 - 20 oz black coffee per day.

Addictions require balance. Meth mouth for a high, face annihilating opiate itching, brittle bones for coffee, etc. All good.

In college I gave myself an arrhythmia drinking too much coffee. 20 years later I still drink too much coffee. I make a 5 cup pot when I first get up and another mid afternoon, at a minimum. (Sometimes I supplement this with a Mountain Dew, just for a caffeine variation). To quote Mr Midgett, "Addicted, do not give a fuck."

This morning my coffee consumption so far has been -

5.30 - Instant Coffee - stong cup. That Espresso machine takes too long to warm up FFS.
6.30 - Espresso at home.
7.15 - Espresso at the coffee shop near the train.
8.15 - Double Espresso walking from Waterloo to Bank.
9.30 - Double Espresso at work after I've checked emails etc.

It's 9.35 now. I feel FUCKING GREAT. No doubt I will crash in 55mins time....

I am addicted to coffee. My use normally builds and builds and builds to epic levels - Then I go cold turkey for a few weeks and start from scratch.

edit - I'm actually kidding myself completely with that last statement. I haven't had a day without coffee for probably 20 years. I cut down. I don't go cold turkey at all. Coffee... you are my best friend **sob**.

9.45 - feeling a little emotional now and maybe experiencing an early come down... time to get a long coffee to sip through the morning.

Addicted, sort of.

I started drinking coffee quite late, like in my late 20s.

However, my love for reggae and cannabis hard-rock doesn't go well w / coffee.

Coffee is great. I mostly grab some drip most every day, but when I can, a triple loaded 12oz Americano with room for cream and cinnamon hits the spot most any day I can get my hands on it. Sometimes its one or two of those a day because they're fucking delicious and they go amazingly well with either a long day at school or just another day at my relentless retail job. I won't vote crap because they give me something to look forward to, and a decent cup of coffee really makes an early morning no matter what the situation.

Not Crap. Don't see a waffle factor.

If the plan is to quit however, a decent cup of tea is your friend. I prefer black tea with a splash of milk with some toast or oatmeal for breakfast. Maybe it's not the same 'rush' as a huge mug of coffee before your day job, but it's satisfying and ultimately gets the job done, should you allow it.

My recommendation is Barry's Gold Blend Irish tea. I go through packs of those bags as though they were candy.

This. Morning coffee + cigarette is the highlight of my day. Oddly, whenever I attempt to quit smoking, which is quite often, I have no desire to drink coffee whatsoever. Just feels incomplete.

Addicted all the way, and gladly so. It keeps my teeth sharp.

It only becomes a problem when I travel with other folks who don't get up as early as I do. I need it before about 6:30 or I get a BLAZING headache.

350 days out of the year, two peas in a bucket. But the rare time I'm beholden to some other lazy fucker it sucks.
