They all sound good and they all sound pretty similar, in my mind at least. I guess I'd have to actually play the records side by side to see if that was really true. Do they sound significantly different when you do that?

The important question is - Where the hell is the insert to my

Yeah, pretty much. Dirndle dirndle, thwapa dap dap, chingle dingle rahr rahr rahr. Some hollering.

Terraform is still my favorite one musically, and now that I think about it I like the sound of it the best.

It has a little more dirt to it--I remember it seeming a little thicker than the other albs. Some of it has a sloppy, slurry sound that they get live but don't have on the records all that often.

Drums sound fantastic.

Some other little idiosyncratic touches to it that I particularly like--the way some of the songs are butted up against each other, shit like that.

I wish J. Burns still had that 80 minute version of "Didn't We Deserve a Look. . ." that he put together 6 or 7 years ago.

Actually, now that I have realised this thread is a battle between productiondome, rather than productdome, I have to say that terraform is the best sounding record in the catalog. Sounds slightly more 'open' than the others, the indivual instruments don't sound as squashed on top of each other as on the other records, they have a little more room to breathe. Easily one of my favourite sounding records all time, it's perfect.
Here comes another load of joy

I don't get it.

Anyway, I found it...it had fallen behind the bookcase.

UHHHHHH. Yes, I would like that. Burns went Oswald/Greyfolded with it? Drew Wilson once imagined doing this will every live version of "Billiard Player Song."

All of them are great and unique but the Terraform/The Futurist is probably my favorite because of it's spatial elements.

I was trying to figure out what made (Abbey Road recorded) Terraform stand out to people. I can't imagine the room, mics, or tape machines sounding much better than the Chicago studios. However, was this the console that it was mixed on:

The control room has a 60-channel AMS Neve 88RS

? Maybe that's the difference.

Terraform is probably my favorite overall...I vividly recall the first time I heard them play "Didn't We Deserve..." (which was also the first time I ever saw them)...before the lp had come out so when they started it I had no idea it was going to gon on for so long. It was so disorientating I honestly thought Bob & Todd were stuck, like a record gets stuck.

Excellent Italian Greyhound though is my favorite sounding record.

There's a chance that RBoyer might still have it on his computer. Or maybe someone who downloaded it when James posted it here a few years back?

A "Dark Star" version of "Billiard Player Song" would be fucking mint!

I've got to get on the Terraform bandwagon. The two songs that really stick out in my mine are Didn't we Deserve and Copper. The drums sound fantastic on the whole record.

I always thought the earlier version of Copper, from that comp, was far superior

Oh yeah....I don't own that one. I'll have to track it down and give it a listen.
