A coworker brought this band back to mind today, and I was moved to re-download their album Permission to Land and listen to it. I remember really liking the song "Bareback" which apparently wasn't even on the album, but in re-listening I also discovered how much "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" reminds me of "Sister Havana."

I would like to hear a bastard-pop-mash-up-mix of these two songs, somehow or other. Someone please make this happen.

They just played "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" on this VH-1 100 Best Hard Rock Songs.

I like that song quite a bit.

Givin' Up ZGivin' A Fuck is a great song with a great message. Thing Called Love is fun and my GF likes it. So hey, go Darkness.

Does Liam "Slowly walking down the hall/faster than a cannonball" Gallagher write your lyrics?

You get jokes! Good work. I suppose you also had a beef with the song title "Love on the rocks with no ice?"

The revival of this thread brings me back to 2003, when I used to get laid a lot more and The Darkness were amusing for all of five minutes.

mmm...now I'm grumbly

It's intentional? I didn't want to give them that kind of credit.

I'm surprised people even remember this shit. This band was a joke and not a funny one at all.

I totally agree. But not totally because they never really amused me.

I thought (or I wanted to believe) that Oasis quote was a joke, but I googled it and it's real. WTF? That's one fucking piece of crap right there!

Never remotely anywhere near good. Some people (in the UK at least) must have forgotten already how this stupid, shitty band were shoved down everyone's throats for an entire year, by everybody else, and to disagree was to be somehow labelled a hater of fun. Not helped by the band's attitude that anyone not making the same music as them was self-indulgent, in a grisly yet short-lived echo of the Oasis effect on UK guitar youthmusicz of the mid-1990s (heck, that attitude still looms large, so no need for The Darkness to keep at it).

The nadir for me was when I came upon on a feature in dumbass music site Drowned In Sound saying how if you didn't buy their Christmas single you were basically against all alternative music and in favour of manufactured pop and there was no arguing otherwise.

Then the public wised up and got sick of them, which I guess was good.

A pan-flash of crappity CRAP, and I feel ashamed for even contributing to a debate about them like it somehow increases their douchebag half-life.
