You know, whether you like something or not often has very little to do with whether you might find it interesting or fun to talk about. Or not.

Steely Dan is an oddity.

In it's own way, it's one of the angriest songs ever, and probably the only Steely Dan song that really resonates with me personally. I really understand wanting to never have anything to do with a school you used to go to.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

I really like Steely Dan, always have, own many records etc.

I'm sure I think about them less than quite a lot of people who hate them.

I've always really liked Steely Dan too, Tim, and I commiserate with your sentiment.

I mean they have lyrics and music which are quirky and intelligent, kinda like your bands. What's not to like?

(Especially that guitar solo from the title track of "Pretzel Logic"....sheesh...legendary.)

I saw Steely Dan 3 times, once before anyone did "theme" shows, a Greatest Hits show, and the Aja show.

If you really want to go, see the Aja show. They played Aja all the way through, but then played most of the other songs you would want to hear, even Any Major Dude.

Let's go! I'm down for at least one. I think I wanna see The Royal Scam most but I'm down for Aja.

Heard this album for the first time recently and the band finally clicked. Doesn't sound soulless, overcooked or sterile at all and every track is excellent. They almost sound vibrant on this record.

I would go to the Royal Scam show at the Beacon, although it does not appear that Bernard Purdie is participating.

EDIT: I would go to the Royal Scam show at the Beacon, if not for the fact that I will be in New Mexico that evening.

Ugh.
My BF loves Steely Dan, and I absolutely abhor them.

It's hard on a relationship, lemme just say that.

It's too bad that the John Mulaney/Nick Kroll performance "Oh, Hello" is only playing for a very short time, I think just about everybody who posted in this thread would love it. Hilarious sketch/play about two old New Yorkers that love Steely Dan.

I want to hate them but somehow can't bring myself
to . I love it. On paper , it's a terrible scenario . But then my shoulders move, and then my groin/hips . And then I'm smitten and logic goes away .

I enjoyed the Taxicab Confessions thing posted a page or two ago.

But boy do I not like their music. Supermarket rock. It's not for me.

I had no idea that this was an element of Oh, Hello. It makes me like Mulaney and Kroll even more than I did before. Bummed that I'm going to miss this.
