It’s in another state and my sister-in-law is due to have a baby around that time, which means my wife won’t want to travel.

Its not bad, the guitar even sounds very Iommi at times, but Ginn? Nah its missing all the Coltrane freak-out chaos of that era of Black Flag.

My gripe with the guitar is the overdriven sound... a bit Peavy...

I've heard the record and it's fantastic! Gorgeous moments mixed with fun, exciting parts. I think when you hear the entire record, that song fits in a cool way. "Serpent's Tongue" is sort of the "Pull the Cup" of the record.

If you're not into instrumental, 3 piece, guitar-based stuff, it might not be your bag.

It sounds like The Process of Weeding Out with a better recording job.

I like it a lot.

Sounds a lot like this:

I'd see it live, though.

I love Fugazi forever. Records sound even better now (except the A side of the last one).

It sounds to me as if they lost a bit of mojo after Red Medicine, but I still wouldn't say even The Argument is crap. Entirely crap.

The first one I heard was In on the Kill Taker, and it may be my favorite of theirs, but lately, I prefer listening to A Steady Diet of Nothing.

Great band, any way we slice it. Except for the last two. Maybe.

Kill Taker is always going to be my favorite one, cause it was the first I heard when it came out. I was expecting I was going to get more punk rock considering Ian and all, but damn that shit was great! Band is still not crap, and is one of the handful I think have a perfect discography all the way through.

I was actually just listening to End Hits yesterday, it was a weird thing to hear as a Fugazi album when it came out, but it finally connected. It sounds to me like they were trying something new, and maybe like The Beatles decided to use the studio as another instrument instead of just being a "rock band". I don't know. First listen was weird, but I love listening to it now. I don't know parts of it remind me of the way The Breeders have thrown some weird "studio" shit into their songs here and there.

The last two are fine, less fiery but that's where Fugazi was headed.

I agree that everything prior is incredible rock music that hasn't dated a day. I used to think Fugazi needed more "color" in the music; turns out I wasn't listening closely enough.

Steady Diet/Red Medicine do the most for me, but Kill Taker got me into the band (via ATDI, iirc)
Kerouacian as fuck.

That's exactly how I hear it (Fugazi making a record where sound is a character, as opposed to one that is a portrait of the live band), and I think they got it perfectly right, it's been my favourite of theirs for a long time now.

The Beatles analogy is spot on. To me I mean. Because End Hits kinda reminds me of Sgt. Pepper.

What I think has always put me off is that it sounds uptight. When I wanna listen to the experimental Fugazi, I pop in the Instrument soundtrack, which I'm listening to right now. It's actually the second Fugazi I ever heard. Saying I have a soft spot for it is an understatement.

Bought it at Wal-Mart (!) around 2 AM when I was 19, working from 6 in the morning till about midnight during one of my workaholic periods. Every fucking day.

Everyone who went through this knows what I'm talking about when I say it's like living in a haze. I don't even remember what I had stopped there for, but I ended in the music department, searching through loads of shit music in a strange, strange stupor.

Running into Fugazi was like "huh?". Well, I bought it, got home, put it in, threw my headphones on, knowing I would have to get up in three hours and get back to work. Three hours is a long enough time for music and sleep when you're nineteen.

So I basically slept with that record during one of my most surreal phases. Right now, typing this, I think it's maybe the best Fugazi out there after all. Yeah. That's it.

Strangely enough, it sounds like a cross between End Hits and The Argument, the only difference being it feels like they let go completely. Which is the perfect opposite of what they sounded like doing on those other two records.

It's their White Album (except having same tracks as Sgt. Pepper, lol). I fucking nailed it, somebody nod I did. (It even has a song named "I'm so tired".)

EDIT: Or TMMT.

End Hits is their White Album, duh.

The Argument is their Abbey Road.

Red Medicine is their Revolver.

Fugazi never made an album as dumb as Sgt Pepper.

I've had this identical thought so many times. Seriously.

Actually hate the guitar...hurm.

(Regarding Messthetics): Comforting to know I'm not the only one. It often sounds like the guitar is playing a different song than the bass and drums. Once in a while, it lines up all right, but most of the time, the end result is kind of lame.

Yeah I don't dig the guitar at all and it's slathered in cheesy delay, but also think Joe is a little too comfortable riding the low E string these days. Brendan sounds pretty great but I still left their show early..
