I'm pretty sure Dylan Carlson sold that. Probably for drugs.

I sorta regret buying it, as I could now unload on some doom metal stooge for more money than it cost.

Do you mean not buying it?

Correct. I shouldn't post first thing in the morning.

Not Crap. Earth 2 at high volume is super-awesome.

I heard that Rhys Chatham was going to start a "metal minimalist" trio band because of listening to Earth. Didn't this trio go on tour? What's happening with this?

So, I've only heard "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull" but I think it's beautiful. Enough to convince me that Carlson is a talented musician and can outweigh much potential crap. The rest doesn't seem bad either...

Sidenote: it's kind of fun reading Blood Meridian and spotting song titles.

I love this album! I saw them back in February with Sir Richard Bishop and not only did they both totally destroy, but I also got to meet Dylan Carlson after the show who turned out to be a thoroughly nice guy indeed.

i saw this chatham outfit.

terrible. truly terrible. one of the most weak and misguided attempts to jump a bandwagon i've ever seen (coming from chatham, an innovator).

I have finally been listening to "The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull". There's something distinctly American about this album. I can't quite put my finger on it but that's the best way to describe what it conjures up for me.

As for the poll Earth is NOT CRAP. Never seen them live though. I just can't believe this band is still around and how much they have changed. I remember getting "2" when it came out and figured that was it but then they kept putting out albums plus I discovered what had come before "2". Some of their post "Hex" stuff sounds like recordings I have made alone at night at home in the dark playing every instrument myself and I really dig that.

I only came around to liking this band with their latest two records, at the time I thought Earth 2 to be completely pointless, and I still haven´t gotten to the point of being into that one. Still, Hibernaculum in particular I enjoy a lot.

I wish I would have gone to the show that Earth played in PHL with Sunn0))) at some really intense church. Would have been awesome. Ah well, next time.

Really really not crap. I love the old stuff and the the new stuff has clean tones that make me want to fuck my speakers.

dylan carlson talks about this in interviews... the "american music" component of earth's sound. i never really understood what he meant but i think it has something to do with the country influence on some of the more recent stuff.

I'm amazed that I haven't posted to this thread.

I'm a huge Earth fan. One of my favorite bands ever. Looking at my CD racks, I own more Earth discs than any other artist/band.

Earth 2, Pentastar, Hex and Sunn Amps And Smashed Guitars are my favorite earth records.

I really dug both Hibernaculum and Bees as well.

NOT CRAP!

I was wrong about this. They are an excellent band, with many excellent songs (Raiford (The Felon Wind) & An Inquest Concerning Teeth from Hex and Miami Morning Coming Down II (Shine) from The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull are my current favourites).

I didn't enjoy Earth 2; I don't really go in for that kind of thing. But the triumphant parade of ringing, rhyming chords on the later Earth albums? Awesome.
