Seeing that awesome live vid of Earth performing at the Lynch Foundation thing brought this to mind also (as well as the countless times I've driven while listening to Bees; that album was made for Twin Peaks daydreaming). Glad to see I'm not the only one who wants something like this to happen. A Badalamenti/Earth collab, now that's something that'd make me forget all about Sunn/Scott Walker.

So, there's a collaboration with London electronic(?) musician for Record Store Day: 'Boa'

Funny, these pairings. They also played with Wire a while back

The Death Metal vocal thing just isn't even in the same ballpark as the vocals on the new Earth album.

The vocals in Death Metal can be good or even great. The vocals from the dude that ruined this new Earth album sound like a chain wallet, leather pants, and Affliction shirt mic'd.

New one has grown on me quite a bit after giving it some time. I don't think the vocals are THAT bad.

Man, I've tried. I have seriously tried so many times to dig the new record. The music is great. I wish Dylan would've pulled an Eno and released an instrumental version with this one. Those vocals seriously are some of the worst I have ever heard.

While I was laying on the couch a week back, I pulled up Primitive & Deadly on youtube. I lay there listening to the track. The guitars are fucking SWEET. The drums RULE....and then the vocals come in. My girlfriend walks in not even two seconds later and started hysterically laughing at the vocals. I couldn't help but laugh myself. I felt embarrassed. She asked who I was listening to and I told her it was Earth. She couldn't believe it. Asked me who was singing. I just turned the laptop off and put on an album.

I can't seriously believe they listened back to that in the studio and decided to press it with those vocals.

I want so badly to own that album without that human tribal tattoo singing.

I respect your efforts AV, I know you are a huge music fan with a lot of forgiveness. I kind of view it as being in the same vein as the SUNN 0))) Scott Walker record. Just weird heavy avant garde. I really like it and the vocals do not bother me. I get why they do bother people but they don't bother me.

You know, I own that Scott Walker + Sunn O))) album and I haven't listened to it since the day it came out! Gonna throw it on tonight. Thanks for reminding me about that one. It's a strange album. I ate some weird tacos and felt like shit while being completely wasted while hearing SOUSED for the first time.

This should rule. Cheers!

Not always been the biggest Earth fan, it's one of those bands where I like the idea of what they're doing but something gets lost in the execution, downloaded the latest album after seeing the kickass cover but...eh. It's not even that the vocals are particularly offensive or anything (Lanegan just sounds like your average grunge era singer in here) it's just that the songs are lackluster by even my diminished Earth standards and that previous albums' beautiful, panoramic and organic sounding production has been replaced by some sort of radio-ready compressed feel. This along with the vocals makes me thing Earth were vying for some sort of increased radio exposure.

Silly Earth, commercial success is for kids (and not drone metal bands or whatever you are)! NOT CRAP waffle factor 6

I buy a ton of records and very seldom sell them, even if I hate them.

I sold the last Earth record within a week of buying it. Very not good.

I hope they abandon the vocals next time.

No way in the world is this band crap.

I listened to Earth 2 everyday for a week once. Pure brilliance.

What should I check out beyond Earth 2? I've given Bees made Honey In the Lion's Skull a go, and found I was more into the heavy droney sound, but that was a while back. My angry teenager ears may have softened.

Also, I very rarely listen to music loud, but when Earth 2 is on I play it on 100%.

It has actually cured headaches for me.
