Does wearing a person's face count as clothing? Haha look, he thinks he's people! We should send him through the McDonald's drive through like that.

Since these movies are basically the animal rights equivalent of blackface, it's too bad the apes weren't regularly pulling off B list actors' faces until they got the message.

What about other movies where people are dressed like primates? Like that one scene in Trading Places?

Oh, come on! It's like, who are they trying to kid, you know? Dressing up a monkey to look like people. Unless it's a chicken. I'm OK with chickens wearing slacks.

Grape Ape

Wow, I'm glad by the time Grape Ape was on the air, rock music had taken over my Saturday mornings.

You kids had to watch some bullshit cartoons.

Dude Grape Ape wasn't even prime time, that shit was on USA's afternoon nonstop Hanna-Barbera rerun shit. My Saturday morning cartoons were even worse crap all based off toys that already existed. And there were no monkeys in human clothing, the fuckers!

I've said this before but the success of Ren & Stimpy marks the point after which TV cartoons raised their game. They started to put artists back in charge and it's been a fucking golden age since then.

Back when I was a kid most of the cartoons being made for TV were just trying to fill up half an hour as cheaply as possible and maybe sell you a toy. I remember TV cartoons transitioning from shit to good very distinctly because I love cartoons. I used to get up early on Saturdays to catch The New Adventures Of Mighty Mouse which was a precursor to the artistic revolution in TV cartoons, it was exciting to see because there was just so little else around that was interesting. Ultimately we probably have Ralph Bakshi to thank for three decades of excellent cartoons after the shitpile of the 70s and 80s.

Ha, at least we had Space Ghost and Johnny Quest. People got shot and blown up, they would never play those cartoons on Saturday mornings now.
