I see it less as a passive form of protest, and more of a distaste for something that signifies something you are diametrically opposed to.

Kind of like, if I went to use the regular old dish towel that I always use to dry off my hands after washing them at my kitchen sink, but someone was like "hey I just used that to wipe up cat barf from the floor," I'd probably just let my hands air-dry instead. I'm not going to be like "YOU KNOW WHAT, FUCK THAT STUPID BARFY CAT!" and use it anyway.

Also to further the metaphor, I might use it again, after it's been washed, but it's probably always going to remind me of cat barf even when it's clean.

So...you buy a new clean towel instead of reusing the old clean towel? That's silly. Why do towels exist? The further we extend your analogy, the less sense it makes.

I thought Peaky Blinders was chiefly responsible for the proliferation of this haircut, at least I did during the wedding reception I attended last year. Maybe I was in the wrong building?

I get it. I'm not into looking like a cop, so that's why I rock the sideburns and keep the barber visits on a pointedly-less-frequent-than-cop schedule.

Can't do anything about the rest of the stubby white dude physique and the no-bullshit demeanor, so I do get mistaken for a cop anyway sometimes. Sucks.

Thing is, it doesn't suck enough to consider removing all doubt by going long in the hair. Because if I fail to knock my hair down, it expands into a kind of unmanageable wad recalling Buzz Osborne. And I look terrible in wizard wear.

Put me down for "it's fine".

I shave my head, because otherwise I would look like George Costanza or Larry Fine.

A few years ago, I was approached by some skinheads who mistook me for one of them, but I was stoned and oblivious and it did not register on my addled brain, so I just walked away.

1933-1945, a certain mustache was pretty popular, I'd bet. Kinda stylish. Efficient.

After 1945, outside of Ron Mael, not a terribly popular fashion choice.

Not a protest, just a choice to distance the association.

Nowhere else to post this and it's somewhat related:

Yesterday the name of my cashier at the grocery store was Maga. I don't think she's a Trump supporter who changed her name in support of him, I think that's her actual name, because I remember seeing her before and not thinking much of the name other than not knowing how to pronounce it. Man, talk about stuff that has been appropriated by nazis! This poor woman's name!

The craziest thing was that her last initial was on her name tag as well. TWO Magas working at the same store?

Try being a westerner named Osama. There's a name that got Adolf'd right quick.

You think that's bad, try being called Osama Hillaryclinton Hitler. People just don't take you seriously. In the end, the mustache just had to go.

Somewhere out there, there lives a middle-aged man named Homer Simpson who doesn't want to hear it.

The ironic thing is that Hitler originally chose that moustache interuptus back then because he didn't want the old-timey handlebar-moustache-twirling villains of the day to think he was one of them.

I don't think your analogy works. Almost no one wears that style of moustache 70 years later. It will always carry a certain connotation. But to some, it'll be OK to go back to their previous hair style when:

steve wrote:Trump [is] out of office or we somehow otherwise crushed the Right.

Until such time, there should be:

tmidgett wrote:NO HAIRCUTS WHILE TRUMP IN OFFICE

But still not a protest action. OK, bros.

I know 2 Osamas (actually they spell it "Usama" but whatever).
They both go by "Sam".

If my folks had fucked up and named me "Adolf" I'd probably go by "Dolph" and tell everyone it's short for "Dolphin".

Oh shit I just realized, if "Donald" gets Adolf'd I'm gonna have to change my last name.

My point is more that her name is a made up. I mean, it's a real name, I looked it up, but I never seen or heard it before, and MAGA is initials, so it's really quite insane how this woman who basically has a made up name has now been Adolf'd.
