Those are some sweet shirts.

Each of the band members have casually mentioned in recent months that they are all talking and taking stock of their situation, whatever that might be.

Oh yeah, I don't think they're reuniting. Like ever. Just happy to hear they're talking even a little.

Nice to see that they're willing to at least put the shit aside and hopefully not hate each other anymore. Sucks to see a grudge held for such a long time.

Though if Dinosaur Jr could put their shit aside after all those years.... nah, probably won't happen.

They're all very different guys, but I think they're all also really nice, decent and talented people.

I'm thinking it was 1986. The stage diving was so relentless that Mould was getting hit in the mouth with his mic all night and Norton was shoving people out of the way with his bass. They were pissed off and fucking incredible playing to all those Cincinnati assholes. "New Day Rising" has gotta be one of the best set openers ever. Unlike most bands of the era, I find myself enjoying their records more and more--or at least the three I regularly listen to.

This sounds like a great show all around! Nice work finding the poster, rappard!

For all Ginn's faults, and there are many, the man deserves a smidgen of credit for keeping the Husker Du records in print, widely available, in all formats, and for a reasonable price for over thirty years. And the Minutemen records for that matter. That's at least culturally valuable.

...probably hasn't paid the bands in as many years, etc, etc......

I wish I'd been old enough to have seen them in their SST-era prime. The only time I got to see them was on the "Warehouse Songs and Stories" tour which was superb, but I've since seen a fair amount of earlier footage - including the clip that you posted, natch - which demonstrates they were at their apex as a live band between 83-86.

Nonetheless all the albums have much to recommend them apart from - IMO of course -"Land Speed Record", - and I'd be hard pushed to think of a band who had a bigger impact on me during my teenage years whilst still sounding enthralling and invigorating now. So NC with no waffle factor from me.

Whoa. I wonder if this will be everything up to the major label records, of just the pre-SST Reflex stuff.

I'm friends with the guy who maintains http://thirdav.com/, and he said it's very likely the latter (i.e., pre-1983 or even earlier).

Henry Owings says on Facebook that it is "anticipated to be exhaustive" and will make the Unwound boxes "seem like softball." I figure he would know as well as just about anyone.

Husker Du? I love them a lot. New Day Rising, Candy Apple Grey, Zen Arcade, Metal Circus, their covers of the Mary Tyler Moore theme song and "Sunshine Superman" -- what is not to like (except the production, arguably, and the odd song that was not 100% excellent in all ways)? I care less for their later stuff and their solo efforts, but at their best they were pretty darn unfuckwithable. Not crap, zero waffles.

Numero posted a photo of safety masters for New Day Rising....I hope this means that SST-era is for sure in play!

When they pry from Greg Ginn's cold dead hands.

That wouldn't be without precedent; Sonic Youth managed to get the master tapes for their two SST albums back by taking the legal route.

Not crap
Loved them in their day. Saw them many times. Definitely the early records. I listen to my ipod on shuffle while I work. When a Husker song comes on it always sounds great. But for some reason I never seek a particular record out to listen to. Odd.

Meat Puppets & Dinosaur Jr also got there SST records back.

I'm assuming that Ginn owes so much royalty money that if a band can lawyer up he pretty much has to give back the masters if the band is willing to forfeit what he owes them. For those bands who have a back catalog that'll sell (SY, Dinosaur, Puppets, Huskers) it's worth it.
