This one might possibly be my favorite.

Running a close second, today, "Could You Be The One" but I'm in a woe-is-me kinda mood.

Bob only played Ibanez "Flying Vs". He swore by the pickups and they were much hotter than the Gibsons. The direct sound was an MXR Distortion + into an Ibanez stereo chorus pedal, I believe. He used Yamaha solid-state heads into Marshall cabinets for most of Hüsker Dü.

I saw these guys many times in their early years. I thought they got better as time marched on.

I have always found this band extremely overrated and a boring listen, especially Zen Arcade. However, I love Land Speed Record. Overall:

Crap.

In the zine YourFlesh #14 (i think) there's an astounding article on Husker Du and their breakup, and it really shows just how angry a lot of people were toward the end there - this reviewer went so far as to call them a complete failure in every effort they had put out. I would NEVER go that far, but i can understand the anger: Bob Mould - the same guy who wrote 'I will never forget you' - is putting out some truly embarassing electronica these days.
That said, they did put out 'Zen Arcade', and so i can't bring myself to call them crap. I don't think i'm the only one on this board who went through maybe a year of listening to something off this album every day.

Greg Norton has a new band, Gang Font. I have no clue what they sound like, especially after reading Greg's description of them, but I think it's cool that he's playing music again.

Does anyone else really enjoy Land Speed Record? It took me a while to get used to the fairly-bad recording quality but after that it became quite blazing thunder hot-lightning ice! to my ears. I think that if they recorded these songs in a studio this would be up there with Zen Arcade and Metal Circus for a lot of people.

same to me . When i got it , i couldn't hear anything but noise but thought
it was amazing anyway. After 20 listening or so , i could hear the songs
and thought it was great
i think it's the best american punk/hc record ever
ZA is great too and CAG sucks , not total crap but mostly crap
By the way , they have made a lot of unreleased live songs and studio
outtakes : does anyone knows where to find them ?

Solidly not crap and one of my all time favorites since I was an early teen. Even considering Warehouse.

I like the earlier SST material, but also have had a tremendous relationship with Candy Apple Grey. That is the cathartic album I listen to repeatedly when shit goes horribly wrong in my life and got to deal with melancholy emotions. Luckily no one has died or important relationships have exploded in my life for a last couple years so I have not had to lose myself in that record for a while. I don’t know of any other song that cuts to the bone quicker than “Too Far Down”. Well maybe “Never Talking to You Again”.

The only discipline my parents ever took too far is when Husker Du played in Green Bay, Wisconsin back on Pearl Harbor Day (Dec. 7) 1987 when I was a sophomore in high school. A young woman one grade ahead of me was borrowing their parent’s minivan to make the 45 minute drive from my hometown to Green Bay for the show. A number of my friends got to make the trip and there was ample room in the van, but my parents denied me permission to go on the basis it was too late on a school night. Anyway the band broke up a couple months later and my chance to see this amazing band live was forever gone.

Exactly. "I'll Never Forget You" is the first punk song I ever taught myself on guitar.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

What's your point? Did you think "fags can't rock"?

I used to see Bob Mould on the subway sometimes, and I would wonder if anyone else in the car knew what I knew: that he was one of the best songwriters on the planet, in one of the best bands ever, and used to play a Flying V.

I think I read somewhere that Greg NOrton didnt change his shoes for an entire tour, they stunk like a dead alligator wrapped in spoiled bacon, and thats what caused the band to break up
