I fucking love this band.
I saw them on 2 consecutive days last week, in Brighton then Leeds. (I went a little crazy buying tickets, and would have sold one but I managed to blag a lift up north)
Both shows were great. At the Brighton gig they didn't do anything pre-Things We Lost in the Fire, but played more of the cooler bits from Trust than I'd heard them do before.

A lot of the new album isn't fantastic on record, but the songs come through really well live.

Picked up the Owl Remix album over the weekend. "Over the Ocean (mix)" does indeed kick all sorta ass.

They were playing Marmoset at Big Lots a couple of weeks ago. I suspect it was a bag boy pick rather than the radio/Muzak. "Breadfan" by Budgie was rocking the Radio Shack last weekend...

Not Crap and Never Crap. More or less everything they did from Long division to Trust was spotless and divine and the newer stuff only suffers because they've set themselves such a ridiculously high standard and is damn solid nonetheless.

Why did he do that?

I mean, Alan Sparhawk throwing his guitar?

Low is the band I don't expect to do that.

Weird.

Did he do it in a slow, and melancholy way?

A guy from my office was in the crowd. He said Sparkhawk flung it into the crowd like an Olympic hammer thrower.

Maybe the audience hadn't obliged his request this time round.

Face expressions of people around that dude are great: "Guy from Low doing this? Is this really happening?"

Ha, I was at the festival but elected to go see Kurt Wagner instead; an act later mentioned "we're all shocked about Low earlier... I think we can safely say, 'what a dick'."

This really weirded me out in a way I don't quite understand; it's strange how you can feel strangely emotionally connected with a set of people you haven't met (although I did eat a curry at the next table to them a few months ago: different story).

I couldn't find out what had happened until the next day when some obliging chap explained to me. So bizarre. I feel genuinely sorry for Alan.

I've seen Alan throw his guitar onto the stage a few times at various Low shows. People have tempers.

i'm not that surprised at all. anyone who has seen them live should be able to see all the pent up energy happening there. i did see him go off to a lesser degree...

still not cool, but not surprising either.

Definitely a favorite of mine. Unbelievably beautiful slow music. Not Crap at all..

slight waffle for "Venus", a song which I think sucks.

Nobody got hurt and it seems like a storm in a teacup frankly. Whatever. The dude is entitled to a bit of madness, he has to be one of the best songwriters the US has ever produced. Nobody tours as much as Low either. Can't imagine how much of a pain in the ass constant touring must be. You know how things can mushroom on tour and then you get little outbursts like this. I think it's absurd to judge him on one such incident.

My fucking word do I love Low. I even finally understand the last two records and they are really, really strong when they finally hit you. Took me a long time but I seriously think they have maintained their flawless track record. Can't wait for the next one.

No, I definitely believe that to be true.

He's written probably around one hundred really incredible songs. Off the top of my head I genuinely can't think of many people who have written so many great songs and so consistently. Maybe you think you can but I doubt it.

Neil Young? Captain Beefheart? Bob Dylan? John Lennon? James Brown?

I mean, I like Low pretty well, but nowhere near that much. I honestly don't understand how anyone could. That's not a slight on you - your opinion is as valid as anyone's - but I, personally, completely don't see it that way at all.
