I've posted these on social media but in case anyone's curious here's a couple of scans from a 1981 issue of Melody Maker I found over the Christmas holidays.

Cilck to embiggen.

Also, if you've not heard it you can grab mp3s of the 1986 cassette bootleg Live At Krefeld via this linked blog. This is hands-down the best currently available live recording (1980) of This Heat and smokes all of the live stuff from Out Of Cold Storage.

That Krefeld recording is great, I got an LP of that in Japan a few (er... 11? 12!??) years ago.

Anyone know anything about the This Heat version of Greenfingers they mention in that article? I'm convinced I've heard it, but I can't work out where that would have been. I've heard one or two This Heat era live recordings that feature it but I'm sure I have heard a studio version at some point and I'd love to hear it again...

I was really buoyed by mention of that, it means there are still fully finished recordings that haven't yet seen the light of day.

As well as the live TH versions of Greenfingers, it was released in reworked form as final single in 1987 by Camberwell Now. It's a little bit scarred by the era and (to me) one of the weaker CN tracks but still worth a listen. Maybe it was that?

Nope, the version I remember had most of the melodic content of the CN one but was a much less 80s sounding recording. When I got the CN reissue a few years ago it took me a while to get used to that version but I do quite like it now.

I only have the little CD version of 'Health and Efficiency" and I've loved it for years.
Which one should I get next?

Yes s/t and deceit are both fantastic. I have a real soft spot for the peel sessions "made available." Which features selections from both studio albums and fantastic recording quality.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Thurstron wormed his way into that..

I was just about to say the same thing.

I guess he was there because Bullen/Hayward wanted him to be, but...yeah. Go away, Thurston.

i'd be pretty bummed to see Thurston wearing beads and holding a guitar while This Heat were actually playing.

Oren Ambarchi makes sense. He can and probably will be the best replacement for Gareth....plus he's great.

He's always around at Cafe Oto.

That was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Incredible. Nothing short of incredible.

Hearing nothing but glowing reviews of the last two nights, bitterly disappointed I missed out on tickets. Tiny globs of media are filtering through - I heard a ripping segment of a reworked 24 Track Loop from Friday via a friend's Facebook and here's a snippet of Twilight Furniture from last night that someone has posted publicly.

Edit: even warrants a short write-up in The Guardian.
