I really like this band, especially the Peel sessions they did. I heard they were one of the first bands to use tape loops and all that good stuff, but Im not sure if thats true or not. Its funny to hear how much of an influence theyve had on bands today.

Horizontal Hold sounds like Battles 101.

Yeah, I find it funny how "in fashion" bands like The Pop Group and This Heat are these days. When all those CDs were in print, they just sat idle in the record stores I worked in collecting dust. Now they go for $80 on ebay.

Fans of This Heat and The Pop Group should check out the first 3 or so singles by Scritti Politti... you have no idea. Unfortunatly, they turned in to shit like most good bands from that era did.
I played a drum in Tijuana Hercules.

He's right.

Someone else told me this years ago and all I could think of was the "hit" Scritti Politti had in the 80's. What was it called?

Anyway, their early stuff is actually quite good.

I think the hit was called "A Perfect Way," and yes, they use damn near every 80's music cliche ever in that song. WAY over produced. It almost sounds like a boy band song except for the semi-complex drumming.
The simple piano solo made me stop for a sec and think "hey, OK, not bad," but then the bombastic bridge outro f's that up.

Sometime after that I heard the song Skank Bloc Bologna and loved it. When I found out the band was Scritti Polliti I thought it was odd that two bands would have the same name. It wasn't something like "The Charlatans" or "Chameleons" which was a likely repeat and could be remedied with a simple "UK" tagged onto the end.

When I found out it was the same band I couldn't believe it. I mean, it's not like PiL or something where you can hear traces of the past, Scritti became an *entirely* different band.

Hmmm....now I'm interested in how that happened.
Time to put The Internets to work.

yup picked it up this wknd. We were listening to in the car and my wife, who I guess I had never played This Heat for before really seemed to dig it. She kept bugging me if I was going to the boxset when it came out.

But so, huzzah these records are coming back in print, This Heat is not crap!

I bought the first CD the other day, and am going to order the boxed set accordingly.

I love This Heat, and it's great to hear this stuff on CD.
