THUNDER. FUCKING. DOME.: AC/DC VS. RAMONES

Postby Charlie D on Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:43 pm

Used the search function, and these two have not been pitted against each other yet. There're eight pages of AC/DC and five pages of Ramones, but they've yet to take each other on. Let the blood bath ensue.

When it comes down to it, despite the influence AC/DC had on rock music, the Ramones were a punk band and I like punk. They weren't especially political, but definitely represented the Left more (yeah I know Johnny was a Republican), represented weirdos and outcasts. AC/DC represented the Cock.

A stupid fucking car race has filled my city with Acca Dacca's core fanbase this weekend. As far as the music itself, both bands made great radio rock, but I'd give it to Ramones by a bit. Everything apart from the music - Ramones by a long way, because they're part of a culture that doesn't make me want to puke.

AC/DC are fucking geniuses and if you can't realize that then you are absolutely piss-brained, shit-fouled morons who probably jack off to Animal Collective.

That said, Ramones.

I can't vote against the Ramones' first album.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Ramones.

The worlds of these two bands are starting to overlap more these days, though they are still a bit apart. Go to any sporting event in the U.S. and you are as likely to hear Blitzkrieg Bop as you are Thunderstruck or Hell's Bells or whatever.

Ramones. Easy.

AC/DC has some good songs, and every now and again I listen to those songs, but they're just too much of a cock rock band for me to honestly enjoy them. The constant use of sleazy sexual innuendos really gets old after maybe 10 minutes.

That's actually a tough call, ACDC with Bon Scott was a great band, but I have to be loyal and give it to The Ramones.

Australia has a better ratio of good to shit bands than New York does. I understand the "importance" of the Ramones but I don't want to listen to them. I always found them commercial jingleish.

From the Wikipedia:

"Bands such as Screeching Weasel, The Vindictives, The Queers, The Mr. T Experience and the Beatnik Termites have all recorded covers of entire Ramones albums; including Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin, and Pleasant Dreams, respectively. Many more tribute albums followed, We're a Happy Family being the most well-known, with artists such as Green Day, Kiss, Metallica, The Offspring, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, and Rob Zombie. Green Day members have gone as far as naming their children in honor of the band. Billie Joe Armstrong named his son Joey as tribute to Joey Ramone."

See what happens? I'll be the doucebag who says it. Not a fan. AC/DC on the other hand...

Both bands were capable of moments of genius and moments of absolute shite (such as Mondo fuckin' Bizarro).

All the same Ramones everytime. I love that band WAAAYYYY to much.

AC/DC deserve some kind of consolation prize though.

Could never get past the ham-fisted vocals and general jockishness of AC/DC. It's just such hard music for me to buy into. I like some music that could be considered fairly jockish, but nothing as all-across-the-board jockish as AC/DC. I know the dudes who made this music were being true to themselves, and playing from the heart, and very musically accomplished and all that, but I can't get beyond the obvious. And neither can they for that matter. Which is kind of the point, I guess, but I have no need for such music when played by AC/DC.

The Ramones.

Than you underestimate the sheer magnitude of shitty New York bands. The only reason there is so much good stuff from New York is the size of the place. In my experience the batting average there is no better than anywhere else and probably worse than many places. Plus there is the fact that like 90% of your good New York bands aren't actually from New York originally.
