Without the father there would be no son.

Funhouse is a landmark LP but I listen to the Wipers way more often. The Circle and Follow Blind are two of my favorite records by any band.

I still haven't voted because this is too vexing.

I agree. However, most days I'd rather hang out with the son.

I could not choose between the two. Had to go with the elder.

This thread makes me laugh.
All these people are voting Stooges and saying it's because of Fun House and that's why I voted Wipers.

Despite being the godfathers of all that is punk and hailing from my hometown, I must confess it is primarily their seminal stature in the pantheon of punk which is of interest to me. The music? Not so much.

With the Wipers, Greg Sage pulled together some well-developed songwriting skills, excellent guitar chops and vocal talent and occasionally managed to break out of the punk "box" altogether. Plus, they have way more songs which I actually like.

my vote goes for the Wipers...beh i love Greg Sage....but i love Iggy Pop too...
with the Stooges he made something of new that has changed the music forever...
but the Wipers has done something of special too...the main difference was just one...
the Stooges were a group of great artists...the Wipers not...
also for me Greg Sage has done a lot of cool records...Iggy not....
btw...on the 20 of june i will go to see Iggy and the Stooges....
even if Iggy is super old i can't wait to see this gig...and i hope to get some Real Cool Times! ;)

i was recently at a huge free family festival in stoke newington and saw a couple of guys i sort of now. they were dressed entirely in black with black sun glasses sitting under a tree, surrounded by beer cans snorting cock off they hands with small children playing all around them. the place was PACKED. already finding this quite rediculous i walked over to say hello. as i walked closer and i could "i wanna be your dog" blaring out of the little speakers he had with him. bear in mind this a festival with noise everywhere as it was and happy familys everyewhere the choice of music to soundtrack those two was perfect. it was one the funniest things i have ever seen. it was like a comedy sketch of obnoxiousness in public.
Here comes another load of joy

It's gotta be the wipers for me. I love the stooges and all but I've spent way more time listening to sage & co and they mean a lot more to me. Great songs, great vocals and probably one of, if not my favourite guitarists.

Come on.
Stooges put out some fucking great records, but the Stooges were major label trolls.

Wipers built their own equipment, regularly toured the West coast with little or no support, had a gay left-handed guitarist (who doubled on singing), engineered their own albums, ran a record label, have a greater number of good albums... oh, and defined a genre of music (albeit mostly bad) in the process.

Iggy played with peanut butter, fucked Bowie, fucked Reed, and sang on a Kate Pierson record. He's basically a groupie.
