Tommy the Cat.
Jerry was a racecar driver.

Not crap. Period. They can put out 50 horseshit albums in the twilight of their career, nothing can soil the awesomeness of their early days.

no, it's soiled with crap

though sometimes sorta fun if i'm in the right mood, but it doesn't take too long before the geek vocals, duh funkay bass, and the guitary solos scratch my nerves. like some of that drumming on Frizzle Fry and Suck on This, though.

that live dvd they put out late last year is definately worth the ten buck they want for it. totally amazing performances, and "fizzle fry" in its entirety.

Sorry, this is one band on which I have to invoke the Helmet clause. I don't care how atrocious their new albums that no one listens to are. The band remains Not Crap on the basis of their initial work.

Judging a band solely on their crap/non-crap work would seem to skew the results.

In Primus' case, I believe their noncrap outweighs the crap.
I never thought I'd recover from the trouble that Youtube put me through...

nothing can soil Frizzle Fry. that album slays *and* melts. seems like everything went downhill from there, but that album alone cannot be outweighed. i mean, i guess if they put out... no, wait... they could put out crap after crap album (maybe they have, maybe they havent't), but Frizzle Fry. FRIZZLE FRY.

"Hi, we're Primus, and we suck."

Fucking slap bass. Show me a good band that uses a slap bass and I'll eat my TapeOp.

I used to love this band when I was 13 and played bass in a rather embarrassing Nirvana cover band. Thank god I discovered good music.

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. Primus are one of the worst, most irritating bands I have ever heard.

Fuck this joke music.

I really like Frizzle Fry, but I'm gonna have to go with CRAP. I mean, it's a good album, but definitely not top 20. Maybe it would sneak in if I listed a top 100, but there are a lot more essential records out there.

And that was their highest point. Everything else has been way worse.

If a Slint, Don Caballero, Wire, The Fall, Shellac, etc, became (non-confrontational) regulars on the Atlantic Jam-band Cruise, I would be willing to vote crap for any of them. Similarly, if my own, actually existing brother murdered baby Emperor Penguins with a meat cleaver for a living and sold video tapes of the process to Republicans and Nazi war criminals, I would vote crap for him, my dear brother.

Primus couldn't hold a Bic lighter to the above bands (or my fine brother).

An easy crap.

Wow. Primus and Depeche Mode both have near 50/50 splits between CRAP and NOT CRAP votes.

This can mean only one thing -- we are all going to Hell.

By "we", I mean "the 50 percent of you who voted NOT CRAP".

first of all, i voted NC because of the way i enjoyed primus discs at a young age, the influence they had on me, and the way they turned me on to some better music, such as the residents.

HIGH WAFFLE because the music ages really, really poorly. i think the members are talented, have distinctive styles, and les claypool has good taste but POOR songwriting ability, which regrettably he later decided to showcase! for guys into prog, they write some awfully repetitive songs. some primus fans say "he plays awesome bass solos, dude!" actually, no. he rarely solos and when he does it's rarely impressive. what he DOES do is play a very percussive and rather unique slap-influenced style that i respect. "my name is mud" is one of the heaviest basslines EVER and i've never heard anyone really reproduce it.

i don't listen to primus anymore, and i don't think i will hardly ever. but im glad i listened to them when i did.

and yes, i voted NC for depeche mode. kill me now, how about?

see, the thing is, i'm not here to worship shellac, or slint, or big black or don caballero. i think shellac and big black are good but definitely overrated, and don caballero is very interesting but somehow just doesn't click with me. the only time i heard slint was years ago, and this guy was urging me to buy spiderland in a manner akin to a pyramid scheme salesman, which threw a bad light on the little clip i heard.

i'm not even here to bow to albini's engineering prowess or aesthetic. i'm here because i have some recording gear, i'm doing some home recording, i was told that this is a place where i could learn stuff, albini is definitely very skilled and experienced and i'm aware of his analog, naturalist angle and can thus account for what i can and can't take from that (i'm a digital kid all the way), and while i can't always find something stimulating for me in the tech room (many of the posts are only relevant to analog or to things that would mainly be a concern if i was shopping for gear right now, which i'm not), i got sucked into the fun of this silly C/NC game.

so please, bear with me whilst i rep depeche mode.

Absolute horseshit crappy crapola.

But here's my waffle factor: The drums on The Brown Album sound pretty cool.

But that can't save this dying horse.

i loved Primus when i was about 13. each passing year, i liked them less and less..

i could probably enjoy "jerry was a race car driver" or "mr. knowital" if you threw it on the stereo at a party, but c'mon, primus was invented for kids just getting into 'serious' music..
