Well, how's that for a thing to begrudgingly give credit for?

There should be C/NC poll regarding Paul Krugman's taste in music.

I'm more concerned about how Krugman said he took the subway at midnight. I can't stay awake that late!

my lovely wife is taking her 7th grader to the Chicago show. Wife was only modestly interested in going until she found out Devo is one of the openers. She was then excite.

Then the 7th grader said "who is Devo?"

freaky, huh? But is Devo going to sell out Rosemont at this point? Not that they need to or would want to. But the place will be full of kids like my step daughter who will be forced to experience something of Devo and that can't be all bad. She can turn off (or leave the room) any of the stuff we play at home, but she'll be stuck there soaking it all in. Wonder if the contrast when the headliner htis the stage will register to the youngsters? Guess I'll have to see what the kid says when she gets home...

I can think of a thousand bands that are worse than Arcade Fire.

Their newest record is really, really good. It's a cross between one of the early New Order records and one of those weird '70s records where a rock band tried to capitalize on disco, but they were too coked out to make it work, and the producer was on too many Qaaludes to steer them in the proper direction.

They're trying something different, and I give them credit. They could have just made another record just like the one that won a grammy, and they didn't.

Their arena show was very entertaining. Sure, a lot of the crowd was completely annoying, but I was entertained.

I don't know their music all that well, but I saw them in Atlanta. Their cover of Radio Free Europe was spot on. I just heard their cover of Alec Eiffel, from Boston, and I was embarrassed for them.

hoo boy. you really don't want to hear their version of California Uber Alles then.

they are truly one of the blandest groups of people ever assembled.
no amount of makeup, prosthetics, suspenders or disco shuffles can hide this fact.

tres gros crap (even though that SNL video of her trapped in a glass cube gives me a great, unintentional, chuckle every time).

I searched this out to read PRFers explain why they hate the Arcade Fire so much. I laughed a ton, and saw my own lameness in their explanations.

But I never laughed harder than when I read the entirety of this whole rant.

I want one of these shirts. After seeing that SNL performance (which was an embarrassment, even as I still plan on listening to their records in the future), it seems I kind of deserve having to wear it around town while people point and laugh at me.

By the way, Not Crap.

Because any band that puts a member in a mirrored glass box on SNL in some sort of homage to Yoko Ono performance art is displaying some next level We Don't Give Any Fucks About How Seriously We Take Ourseles.

Also, because I really like all four records, especially their first and last. Strong melodies. Thematically coherent records that are at least attempting to engage the brain. Took sonic risks on the last record when they could have just cloned their Grammy-winning sound.

Not even close to being a favorite band, but I enjoy them.

File Under: Shit Band Trivia. In 2004, on the same night that Shellac played Collinsville, IL (near St. Louis)with The Conformists, TAF played in front of no one in St. Louis City proper.
