The Velvet Underground was awesome in more directions than either of the others. They had an additional layer of subtlety, and a greater emotional range.

Funniest: Ramones.
Most energetic: Stooges.
Most groundbreaking: Velvet Underground.
Fastest: Ramones.
Most insane: Stooges.
Most negative: Velvet Underground.
Happiest: Ramones.
Most drugged: Stooges.
Most primitive: Velvet Underground.
Purest: Ramones.
Most swinging: Stooges.
Most of a musical 180: Velvet Underground.

I don't have the heart to vote against three of my favorite bands.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

Jesus Lizard. No, Slint. Wait -- the Birthday Party

I mean, I don't care. The Ramones on sentimental grounds, the Velvet Underground on artistic merit, and the Stooges for being the Stooges. No vote.

I'm surprised with the poll results, opposite of what I expected.

The Stooges, btw, for Funhouse.

By either criterion it goes:

Stooges
Ramones
Velvet Underground (who I think are great btw)

This was really hard for me just between the Stooges and The Velvet Underground.

I almost voted Stooges, but I'm more a fan of the different eras and sounds VU have been through.

The Velvet Underground.

Pfff....three totally different bands.

When in doubt, gimme The Ramones every time.

Some people here know what my assessment of TVU is, in any event. And Iggy Pop is what Jim Morrison would have become had he not died young...too derivative for me.

Blast from the past. I just scanned through and am surprised I didn't comment before as all three bands are excellent.

For me it's

VU
Ramones
Stooges

Every note off of the four proper Velvet Underground albums is burned into my brain. Everything else that has been released since they broke up has pretty much been as well. I'll be old and senile and will still know all the words to 'Candy Says'. They weren't the first or last band I obsessed over but they left the biggest impact I think. I still go on the occasional VU binge. Ramones and The Stooges are both great but I'll give the nod to The Ramones because I heard them first at a younger age and they just hit me at the right time or something. The first 4 albums are great and I don't know much past that and don't know if I want to. The Stooges are also great and never released a bad record. If I had heard them before I heard The Ramones, I'd probably put them second.

I guess I'm a sucker for the pretty songs. VU made noisy music sound sad and contemplative. It's an effective combination for me. I don't give a shit about their avant garde cred. The much-maligned Loaded has several excellent songs on it and the much-lauded White Light/White Heat has The Gift which is a very boring joke.

I like the Stooges as far as they go, which is maybe not so far but very much to the point.

I have never given any kind of shit about the Ramones and probably never will. I don't hate them, I just don't find them very interesting. Maybe less interesting than the Sex Pistols.

The Velvet Underground. Didn't really hesitate and I love the G.D. Stooges. Ramones rule, but yeah, they're a distant #3 for me.
