Wood Goblin wrote: they're one of the only bands I know of in which artists who attempt cover versions don't embarrass themselves. The Mono Men, Nirvana, and Crackerbash have all done fantastic covers of Wipers' songs.
Wood Goblin wrote: It's gray and dim right now in Chicago. Perfect weather for the Wipers.

That's just b/c it is super-double-gay.
"Is This Real?" and "Mystery" are also pretty gay songs.
I mean, literally, they're gay. And great.

The first three songs on Is This Real? are remarkable. One of the best album kickoffs I have ever heard.
By "literally" do you mean they are about being gay, that they make you feel gay, or that they are "fruity-sounding"?

About being gay.
They don't make me feel gay, but they make me feel like they're about being gay.
I don't think they are fruity-sounding at all, which is what is great about the gay Wipers songs.tallchris wrote:I'd also add any song with the word "alien" in the title.
Yeah, only I think he's being literal about some of that. Like, literally, he's talkin' about aliens.
Strange guy.
Mike Greenlees wrote:Yeah, previous to the new shit coming to light, I always just figured his whole "No one wants an alien" trip was a metaphor for feeling like an outsider, being gay, whathaveyou. But he's being at least partially literal. I have been warned by people who have recorded with him, to not get him started on alien abduction, should I ever meet him. He seems to be a genuine crank on other levels as well, though I'm just going by interviews and the notes for the cd box.
He's probably my favorite guitarist of all time. Wipers, top 10 for me as well, so flawless are those first 3 records.

Got it 2 weeks ago, and it it has been on constant rotation ever since I opened the box. Excellent. Thanks EA!

This silly chatroom has introduced me to some of my favorite music!
Wipers! MX-80 Sound! Pere Ubu! Third World War! I feel like I've been living under a rock, and all of you internet dorks lifted up that rock and let me drink from your canteens!
