Nomeansno vs. Minutemen

Both have outstanding bassists, and vocalists with a similar style. Who means more to you?

The Minutemen.

Easy one really. For me anyway.

In fact I return to the Minutemen more than any band in the last couple of years.

It's going to be a massacre the other way, but I've gotten into Nomeansno much sooner and played their albums far more than Minutemen's, even though both are great. In my life NMN were more important.

I think Andy Kerr is great, I like his contribution to NMN a ton.

However, putting them up against the Minutemen? The MINUTEMEN? Seriously, that's unfair...

I've given up trying to like Minutemen.

NMN, easily.

I definitely can't understand not liking the Minutemen. Such a great great band.

Nomeansno barely even registers as a blip on my musical radar.

Am I really missing something by not caring about them? I'm not even sure what they sound like.

Is this a generational thing?

Minutemen by far.

I like Nomeansno reasonably well, and like quite a lot of the stuff of theirs that I've heard. They're a great band, and while I wish I could say that I'd given them nearly as much time as the Minutemen, that would be a lie.

However, the Minutemen are utterly astounding and one of the greatest bands to have ever existed.

The Minutemen in a landslide.

I've heard this record, and while there is no denying it is a fantastic record, I can't comprehend preferring it over Double Nickels On The Dime. I honestly do not understand it.

Then again, I consider Double Nickels On The Dime to be one of the five best records of the '80's, and one of the best records ever made in general.

I voted Nomeansno. I've been listening to them since I was 12, and as much as I like Minutemen and can appreciate the genius of both bands, I have a strong personal connection to NMN and a deep, long-standing affection for their awkward aesthetic. So Nomeansno by far.

Minutemen, no question,

It's a really rare band that can be considered equal to, never mind better than the Minutemen, one of my favorite bands.

I will say this is a much better poll than that Sabbath/Jesus Lizard one. Awesome pairing.

Minutemen, easily, for me, although I think Nomeansno is pretty great, too. I can listen to the Minutemen for far longer periods without eventually getting a headache, though - I prefer Boon's vocals.

I have never heard No Means No, yet I still totally justified in saying that there's no way on earth that they're better than the Minutemen.
