These fiberglass drums are extremely lively and resonant, with excellent tunability. In conventional multiply drums, the different layers of wood dampen shell resonances by being oriented across each other. Jenkins Martin drums are made by winding a fiberglass “rope” around a mandrel, so the shells have a grain, like the fibers in a piece of wood, but in a continuous spiral around the cylinder. They behave almost like a marimba tone bar, with a strong note and sustain. If you’re looking for sustaining, “singing” drums these are a good choice and can be tuned across a pretty wide range. We have all sizes of these.
