This device was intended to feed a subwoofer in a disco, and it mixes two signals, a synthesized subharmonic of the audio (which is quite dirty sound quality) and a conventional low-pass filtered signal. The output is pretty gross sounding on its own, but mixed under the conventional audio it can provide convincing extra heaviness.
