Most clipping circuits work by flattening the extremes of a waveform, so rounded waveforms have flat tops and/or bottoms, and their character comes from how abruptly and how accurately that happens. The way the P&C clips causes the clipped portion of the waveform to re-appear at the lower bound of its excursion. Imagine a waveform that looked like this (V) ending up like this (W). I mean that’s not really it, but sort of. Hard to show you without a drawing. If you see me anywhere just ask and I’ll draw it out for you. Anyway this weird clipping causes interesting sweeping pulse-width-modulation and false-octave effects. Brash and unpredictable, this weird pedal rewards experimentation.
